Is that correct in that it can only haul 1/4 ton? that's only 500 pounds, right? Seems like a lot of trailer to lug around, when shoot for 500 pounds you could have just done a cargo carrier in the receiver hitch..

500pounds is the weight they can haul & still float in water, so that is their official weight capacity. But I've been told that they can haul way more on the road.

They can haul as much as you can put in them. 1/4 ton might only be how much a jeep can pull ;)

During hunting season I have had 12" side boards on mine. They will definitely haul what you can load in them. My 47 Bantum has been abused for 60 plus years.

Negative. I have been regularly using mine to haul pallets of 80lb bags of mortar. That's 42 bags on a pallet! It definitely flattens the springs, but no signs of stress to the frame or axle. Even the michelins on it are rated at WAY higher than 1/4 ton.

3360 lbs. 1.68 tons not including the weight of the body.

Weight rating for Military trailers is normally the approved weight off highway.

My M101 (3/4 ton) has 2 ratings on the info tag. 1500lbs off road, 2200 HWY. And I have greatly exceeded that many times. Probably 3000+ off road once ;) Maybe there is even more beyond what the trailer can hold for the military but a certain level it will still preform at. Goes back to what the Jeep can pull again:D Just thinking out loud....

i was always told on the smaller units like the 416s, it's the weight it will hold and still float

I should have clarified that mine is a Canadian version though. It's newer and heavier duty than the old WWII US versions. Still, for a tiny trailer, I totally abuse it and it keeps coming back. I originally bought it for wheeling, but quickly decided it was too heavy and loud for long trips. If you pull, then set up, then wheel, it's probably okay. If you are doing expedition style wheeling, I would leave it at home. For me, it was well worth the $600 bones I paid for it for how much use it gets hauling fire wood, gravel, soil, mortar, you name it, and it fits nicely next to the garage.

That's another criteria I did not consider and makes sense. I did not consider it as my M101 has a hinged tailgate and will never float. I alway forget the little ones double as boats.... Chris should get one:bolt:

Guess I need to start looking for an electric motor too, just in case!
