Stand-by is going from 5 to 10 bucks a month too.

I was pretty annoyed when I got this email. I only have my service activated 2-3 months per year during camping season, and paying $5/month for the rest of the year was low enough it didn't bother me. But paying $10/month then having to activate the service along with having to activate my Garmin InReach service and paying money for something I have never needed is getting old. Sure it's great peace of mind, but the cost and complexity of it all is fatiguing.

Agreed! I actually quit paying for the Garmin InReach as I just wasn't using it... don't need it at CM as one is provided to you (and already set up for them to track locations, which is pretty cool) and don't need it for remote mapping as their mapping is terrible, not nearly as good as what can be pre-downloaded in Gaia, OnX, etc. So then I was down to texting my family once a year while backpacking... only to realize the other guys I was with were just able to do that on their phones now, which I can do. So it has become completely useless to me.

And the Starlink has actually been terrific, being able to allow others to join to provide a way to email/text .gpx files for tomorrow's run was a great perk of our recent Desert Scramble run. And then keeping it on for a while so folks could check in also nice... also great to then turn it off at some point. In my case I only have it on standby 2-3 months per year as I am trying to get out pretty much every month now... annoying they're going to get another $5/month from me either way.

At this point I have canceled my Garmin service and my stand-by for Starlink because for 10 bucks a month I can use my Phone that has a starlink connection through Tmobile to send texts and I can access the following apps when im out of cell service.
