They call it the Wayfair tax, I thought it was going to affect me as well with selling carpet since I have to have it delivered to home by installers. I missed the $100,000.00 part which would make me exempt. it would cause me to only be able sell in Denver and non home rule cities. If I had to collect for every city I sell carpet in my Bookkeeper would have to charge me for all those cities and would not be cost effective to do as it would eat any profits.

Thanks Dave, the catch is we obviously sell more than $100k in Colorado so we are not exempt, even though we do not ship more than $100k inside Colorado.

It is simply a piss poor law where the implications are not thought out at all. They offered a grace period for people to comply. We use Quickbooks for sales, and even they do not know how to handle this. So now there are all kinds of companies popping up that say they will do this for you for an annual fee.

The issue is that if I am on the phone I have no idea how to figure out a phone order sales tax if a guy wants something shipped to for example Basalt CO. I would have to go to the city / county sales tax sites and then figure out, or dig through the state docs. I am pretty sure that no customer would want to stay on the line while this is being done.

Also my accountant would have to spend day every month to figure this out for our sales tax filing. Stupid is not the word

The law is HB19-1240. Introduced back in March. It was passed by the House April 19, 2019, by our Senate May 1, 2019 and sent to the governor on May 14, 2019. The governor signed it May 23, 2019 and it came into effect June 1, 2019. So much for a warning and time to deal with it.

I'm re-reading it Christo, I thought I'd read about a threshold exemption and will verify if I find it.

I don't see how this is the case? We knew about it in December. The state started collecting in March and everyone had to be on board and reporting for the month of April. Maybe it's different for online sellers I guess.

There are over 200 taxing entities in Colorado. We've already had months where we owed certain municipalities less than 10c. Last month we owed Durango $0.26 for a single order we shipped to a customer down there. It's a total nightmare just trying to get all the different tax codes in our system in a company of 8 people. Big government for you😖

I dunno, this particular bill was introduced in the House March 12, 2019.

I tried my home address, work address, and friend's address and nothing works. Is anyone here still receiving orders?

Just tried again, also in a municipality that collects its own taxes (Grand Junction), still no go. I guess Rock Auto is not losing enough sales to justify updating their payment processing.

Is anyone in Morrison that might be willing to accept an order from Rockauto for me? I live in Lakewood at Green Mountain, so it is like 3 miles away from me where it crosses over from the Lakewood to Morrison line... and Rockauto won't ship directly to me.....

shipping companies have nothing to do with city and state taxes.
