I enjoyed Ben's talk when he came to the meeting. Based on what he said they are making good progress in the court cases and lobbying dealing with the closure and "conservation" of public lands from just a short time ago. It has only been 2 years since the massive Moab closures as well as the planned closures of millions of acres of public land in CO and bordering states sold as "conservation." Just during the previous 5 years nearly 50 millions acres was "conserved" by designating new National Monuments, Wilderness Areas, and Conservation Areas which limits hiking, camping, OHV, and of course the many roads that were closed by decree.

Many of these decisions are being challenged and BRC is actually attending these hearings and presenting the case for recreational use. The reason Ben is working with Mike Lee is because of the Outdoor Americans With Disabilities Act which would protect all Americans' access of public lands by OHV or 4x4. Prohibit closing of roads and allowing new roads to be built. Ben spent a lot of time talking about that when he was here at the meeting.

Lee's bill to sell public land grew tons of criticism, rightly so, and was pulled. It was going to require selling 3.3 million acres by the year 2030. But we just lost 50 million acres in only 4 years, did we forget so soon?

@DomOfTheDead is right, SxSs are here to stay and incredibly popular. Outreach and sharing knowledge is really all we can do as individuals. One solution would be to designate areas as free ride areas so that that type of person can get their thrills and damage is kept to a minimum. There are a couple in CO and UT that come to mind but too far from the big cities.
