Need a new battery today - what to get?

If you don't mind a crazy price, there is Antigravity that is making lithium starter batteries too. They are actually a bit less than the Braille batteries. Tim and Kelsey of Dirt Sunrise have one in their Maltec 80 series build and are fans of it. Apparently it has held up well in the desert in the summer too.

The Cruiser will not be getting a lithium battery this go around.

For anybody looking for a basic battery I have the end-all and best budget option ever! Go to Rocky Mountain battery off 44th and Wadsworth. They sell recondition batteries that have a three-year warranty I believe, for $30 after you give them a core. I have several of their batteries and never an issue! Including a VW bus, which I get started once every three months or so and has a slow battery drain in the form of a radio. Not a single issue, and it sits in the cold. I also have one in my wife's 2006 Tacoma and my 69 Land Cruiser.

There is also some thing of a Rainman there who somehow knows every battery for every car, including the classics. He recommended the right batteries in three of my cars off the top of his head. I even researched the battery types after receiving what he recommended to find him right each time...pretty impressive because that's including when I brought in my old VW bus battery and previously had the wrong size, he corrected it off the top of his head while looking at mine!

Swap them out every 3 to 4 years full warranty they invariably test lower than advertised capacity at 3 years and are swapped no questions

If you wait the full 5 or 6 years it’s pro-rated but only ran into that on my 76 I just bought back from California with its interstate that was 6 years old

The Interstate warehouse here in Colo. Springs sells 'blems' for $65 or so. They used to be $35. They are batteries that could be 1 week old and were improperly sold to someone, or batteries that were just returned from an Interstate dealer for some reason. They test them for you, and have common group sizes. It's a good deal, but not a GREAT deal. Unless you call ahead, you won't know what group sizes they may have on hand.

Oooh, smart! Word of warning though, don't buy the Interstate batteries that Costco sells. Something with their purchasing agreement voids the Interstate warranty. I found that out when the Interstate in our Hundy went out in Arkansas and none of the local dealers would honor it.

$98 at Walmart gets you a group 24F battery, wet-cell, with removable caps. Just put one in my '07 GX470 Lexus. Be sure to print out the online price if you want to buy one in the store, in case they are playing pricing games. Beats or meets other prices, and 3 year replacement at any Walmart (of which, there are many...).
