i see they fail to mention their partnership with the sierra club...
Team, I beg your pardon for being ignorant of the answer to my question. I’d like for your help to compile a list of where to buy from and what product lines or companies to support so we put our money into hands that help and support our hobby while helping protect our ability and freedom to access and use it.

If we need to start another thread Mods, please move. I figured making a list of where to go versus where to avoid might help make shopping easier for all of us.

So, where we do we go to spend money to avoid it going to people and places who are against us?

Sorry for the slight detail everyone.

How is Rising Sun going to respond?
Most likely not w/ 25k.
We did donate a big chunk of our proceeds from Cruise Moab to BRC.

I’m sure we can start a drive within the club as well.

So every year we have a Philanthropy Committee that each year decides where to allocate the excess money received from our events. And this year we had two profitable events, ColoYota Expo and Cruise Moab. Volunteering for that committee will be an agenda item for the November meeting, and into the following week on the forum, again just as in years past. Then the committee decides what to do with the funds, and presents back to the club what they decided in December. You can look through the member's only area of the forum to see prior year efforts.. and if you're a member, and you want to have a voice in this process, I would strongly suggest this is something you volunteer to participate in. Just know that actual work will be expected, including some vetting of other organizations, open consideration of new suggestions, and learning some history involving past donations.

And yes last year, the big chunk of this went to BRC, for the same effort. I'm guessing the same would happen again. And I suspect we can speed up the timeline of this to capitalize on the urgency of some of the matching opportunities, though it looks like there's a lot of time to still get in on the Utah Public Lands offer that Jimmy posted above.

Thanks for your reply, Tim. The sped up timeline is what my question was in regards to, being already aware of the fantastic work the philanthropy committee does and has done. I applaud its efforts. Right now, I’m interested in maximizing my donations to the fight against land closures and if the club is getting behind a particular group that is where I will direct them.

Ross, we started down that path with this year's first Expo event. Part of vendor registration involved answering some questions, geared towards supporting keeping trails open.. here is the result: https://coloyotaexpo.com/2023-vendors-clubs/

not a perfect process, and certainly not comprehensive, but if nothing else a step in the right direction, that being more alignment with the club and the events it hosts, and the interests of its members and greater OHV community, including local businesses.

Thank you for this list Tim.

I am speaking more towards clothing and other outdoor gear we all use for camping or element protection. Jackets, shirts, sleeping bags, hats and other camping equipment. From my perspective it seems most companies who serve our needs and interests are multinational corporations who appear nice (doing good things with their monies and influence) on their outer facing surface who are actually more so doing things we don’t align with regarding extreme environmentalism, closures, etc.

It’d be nice to be able to connect our community with companies that are more in alignment with us regarding outdoors and management of said versus closing everything and calling it conservation and or management of lands.

Hope this makes sense.

These are the businesses that joined the greater canyonlands national monument petition to obama years ago. red wing surprised me considering they are big in the logging industry in minnesota. camp chef had signed on until someone (i think from blue ribbon) contacted them and they asked to be taken off the list after that.

Jeez, that's like every well-known outdoor company. I've given money to all these companies over the years:
  • Black Diamond Equipment
  • Camelbak
  • Gregory Mountain Products
  • Jansport
  • Jetboil, Incorporated
  • Mammut Sports Group
  • Marmot Mountain, LLC
  • New Belgium Brewing
  • Nikwax Waterproofing
  • North Face
  • Osprey Packs
  • Outdoor Research
  • Patagonia
  • Penguin Brands
  • Petzl
  • Prana
  • Red Wing Shoes
  • Scarpa
  • Teva
Today, I am wearing an L.L.Bean t-shirt and a pair of Asolo shoes while drinking from a YETI tumbler. At least I am not supporting land closures right at this very moment.

Unfortunately YETI is a member of The Conservation Alliance which directly supports SUWA and other groups: https://conservationalliance.com/members/

People's Soviet Socialist Republic of California,
The irony is they substantially rely on vehicle-based camping so they undercutting themselves especially in this area with what seems like a lot of dispersed camping is going to disappear. It's not just Jeeps and SxS but every yahoo in a Subaru out hiking that's gonna have to wake up and smell the turd that this is.
That makes me wonder (but not actually search the Internet) how many unique people use the area that's being closed down. And then compare that against the number of people that might do the various activities impacted but who don't go to the Moab area.

Is it 5% of their customer base impacted? 25%?

Yup, SUCKS. like i said in the other thread, the who's who of outdoor equipment is who is against us :(

instead of camelback, choose tacticon (a veteran owned company) or sourcetacticalgear.com (made in isreal and used by isreali forces)

for clothing, try hunting store brands like cabela's red head. also off grid surplus.

The irony is they substantially rely on vehicle-based camping so they undercutting themselves especially in this area with what seems like a lot of dispersed camping set to disappear. It's not just built Jeeps and SxS but every Chaco wearing yahoo in a stock Subaru and 4Runner out camping and hiking that's gonna have to wake up and smell the turd that this is.
To that point the silence from Jeep, Toyota, Ford, Land Rover, etc is deafening.
