F35itty proof of concept success!
We camped at the Neck in Canyonlands Friday and Saturday night. Awesome campsite! Probably gets really windy on the land bridge where it is located but we lucked out. Spectacular views!
Saturday was the attempt to get a 3rd gen and 4th gen 4runner and a f350 back to the dollhouse. We left at 8 am and made it about 3/4 to the dollhouse by 2 pm. 1 person was getting tired and didn't want to continue at the slow pace we were making, so we turned around and headed back to camp. We were back in camp by 7 pm. At one point the Ford was dealing with the tranny temp starting to rise at an alarming rate. Turns out, the radiator was covered in a thick mat of nature. Cleaned as best as we could with the power tank and he kept the a/c off with no further issues. The wheel base was a little long for one spot and my brother got to use his winch to pull through the 8 more inches he needed to get through. The 4runners had no issues negotiating the terrain.
Sunday was a canyoneering day at white roost canyon. Lovely little slot canyon and rated as a good intro to difficult trekking. I was told what number it was rated but don't recall. We had 4 short rappels on rope with a 5th being a 70 rap that was overhang in one spot. The canyon was mostly dry and I was the only one to test the "ankle deep water" when my foot slipped. I was also the only person that had a bath up to their armpits the entire weekend! It was a bit deeper than my ankles. Sunday night we camped at the trailhead for white roost and have a decent fire out in the BLM.
With an f350, we set the bar for glamping. 8 coolers, two fridges, ice cream Popsicles, steak, broccolini, , eggs, sausage, philly cheese steaks, hobo pies, and shrimp were on the menu hot off the Blackstone throughout the weekend. The ford pack mule also carried our extra fuel and water. 30 gal of fuel and 20 gal of the needed h2o. With that big motor under the hood, it carried it all and the only thing it could pass was a gas station!
Monday was a slog back to the front range with sunny skies to start the day, followed by rain, then snow that was stacking up on all forward facing surfaces over vail pass and through the tunnel, the east side of the tunnel was dumping! Finished with sun and rain on this side of the hill.
All and all, aside from an externally clogged radiator, the stupidly massive ford did it all.
