I think this will be my 20th year in a row... I don't consider 2020 cancelled? I went there, we camped and wheeled, I even got the t-shirt.

from 2007.. I still have that spatula

The first one I knew about was 1998. I need to see if I can find a larger version of the 1999 design as it was the first oficcal [sic] one. Offical was misspelled :)
@treerootCO: so the pre-run was in 1998, and they counted it as the first annual event even though the "first oficcal" event was 1999?

1999 was the "second time around". Nov/Dec 1998 Toyota Trails

Had to dig out the Nov/Dec 1995 issue of Toyota Trails for the reference to Cruise Moab 1996/1997

Who has July/August 1998 (First color printing of Toyota Trails)? Found this on an old eBay ad. Looks like 1998 was the first official Cruise Moab.

I have that issue. I'll go dig it out.

The History of Cruise Moab on our CM website confirms that the TLCA exploratory run was in 1996, and it says Rising Sun held its first Moab event in 1997. Maybe the Rising Sun team considered 1997 as a trial event, and 1998 was the first official 'Cruise Moab event?

Side note:
I never understood the apostrophe in front of "Cruise" used for the first few years. For example, the 1999 event was 'Cruise Moab '99. You can see it on the printed registration form from Toyota Trails that @treerootCO posted.

What is an apostrophe used for? An apostrophe is a punctuation mark used in English to indicate the omission of letters or numbers in contractions (e.g., cannot to can't, I am to I'm) and to represent missing letters in words (e.g., o'clock for "of the clock"). It serves as a placeholder for the missing characters.

What was the missing letters or words before the word Cruise? Land? Like the full name of the event was Land Cruise Moab, but we wanted to abbreviate that for brevity? Made zero sense. Bruce Minney really liked the apostrophe but he couldn't explain why it was there.

The 2003 CM committee killed the apostrophe. Cruise Moab is a good name that stands on its own.

I think 2010? Was my first. remember BFE?!? I loved it. I can’t find my snowy pictures!!!

BFE was the best CM to date. And aways will be IMHO. Vendor night in the desert, hot wing cook off. All the cool kids camped in one place.

1998 was the first TLCA sanctioned Cruise Moab. 1997 was unofficial. I have the first color TT (the cover photo was reprised when Gary Bjork passed away).

I HATED the BFE CM in 2010. Hurricane force winds sandblasted my eyes every time I walked across the campground on Wednesday, then froze and woke up to snow Thursday morning. Brrrrr 🥶

It was so far south and so far from 191 that every trailhead except Steelbender and Behind the Rocks was a long, long drive. The one good thing that arose from that year was the concept of having the big wedding tent. The showers, while cleaner than Slickrock only trickled. The breakfast burritos were nice too.

I had to climb up on a hill side to get cell service conduct the monthly TLCA board meeting, and despite reminding him in person shortly before the meeting, we were one vote short of a quorum and everyone's time was wasted because our EVP failed to call in.

Wow hardcore was 33s and a locking diff, with optional recovery gear!

One of these days I'll make it to this historic event.

My first year I was open/open on 31s with three on the tree and steering by armstrong.
