I filled out something a while back informing the CM committee that I'd be willing to lead a trail (especially if it helps me secure a spot ;)). I'd like to help out with the pre-run as well. I haven't been since 2010 so it's been a minute, but 2026 is the year!

With the pre-runs, is it best to keep kiddos home since it might be more work...err something?

Unfortunately I will not be able to make this weekend; the Wifie and I have tickets we don't want to give up. However we have already made plans and reservations for the previous weekend (Fri, Mar 13 - Sun, 15) to pre-run the trail I have been selected for. My son is likely going also so we have another vehicle. If there is another trail leader or gunner that can't make this weekend and would like to meet up/ help run each other's trails let me know.

FYI. Probably skip the River Road this time OR Pre-Run it so you can report on the location of the closures and amount of delay :-)

Heads up folks traveling to Moab!!
Announcement BLM Utah, Moab Field Office
Mar. 4, 2026
BLM issues temporary closure for Grandstaff Campground
MOAB, Utah — The Moab Field Office will close Grandstaff Campground, along State Route 128, or River Road, from March 9 to October 31. The BLM has partnered with Utah Department of Transportation and Grand County, who was issued an easement by Forestry, Fire and State Lands, to extend the public bike path along SR128, commonly called the River Road. This project involves many partners and is funded through UDOT’s Utah Trails Program and the Outdoor Recreation Initiative.
Access to Grandstaff Canyon Trailhead and the Porcupine Rim parking area will remain open, as will access to the vault toilet nearby. Visitors should consider and plan for time delays during construction. The project will reduce SR128 to one lane, with traffic control beginning March 9, through the end of October. The BLM is closing Grandstaff Campground to visitors to provide a safe and critical area for UDOT and their contractor to stage equipment.
This multi-million-dollar project will not only provide an additional half mile of paved trail, which will extend all the way to Grandstaff Canyon, but will also create a much safer exit for bikers completing the popular mountain bike trail, The Whole Enchilada.
The BLM and our partners remind recreators to be careful of workers in the area while traveling SR 128, which provides access to many recreation opportunities on public lands. Additionally, the BLM understands that this popular campground will be missed by campers however, the improvements to access for public lands via the bike trail will be a welcome asset come fall.
We are excited for the results of this project, which began in 2004, and we appreciate visitors’ patience during construction.

Hello everyone. I am planning to go on the preruns March 20-22. I live in Moab and might be available to go on other preruns before that time (say the previous weekend) or almost any day between say March 11 and the 20th. I have a modified tacoma on 35s with front/rear lockers, and have done most of the Moab 6 rated trails and a few 7 rated trails. Also if anyone is in the Moab area and needs tools, welder, etc to fix a problem give me a call.

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will update the first post also.

SIGN UP NOW! Send me an email please at timmbuck2@gmail.com and let me know the following:

Name , forum name, email, and cell phone and I will get you added to the list.

WHAT??? - The official Cruise Moab 2026 Prerun

WHEN??? - March 20-22 (I will probably be there the whole week starting Sunday March 17 if anyone wants to come out early). Two years ago there was a major blizzard in the Colorado Mountains the week of the prerun which really limited participation. Rain/snow or shine!!

WHO??? - ANYONE who wants to be a trail leader or gunner for Cruise Moab, or anyone who wants to learn more about how to be a trail leader. Everyone is welcome! Also for anyone who is an experienced trail leader who wants to pass on some of their knowledge and experience. Please note we are limited on space, please reach out to me first if you are not attending Cruise Moab 2026 so we can determine if we need to limit participation.

WHY??? - We always need more trail leaders and the main reason I have heard over the years is some people are not comfortable being a leader, and some people are not comfortable leading if they don't know the trail. This week(end) will help people in both camps! We will have some expert trail leaders there to go over a lot of trail leader information, (more details soon!) and we will run any trail to get to know it better if you are interested in leading it. We will have plenty of experienced drivers and leaders to learn from.

WHERE??? - Moab, duh. ;) We will have a big group camping as usual, and please feel free to hotel or airbnb it in town, just know that the leader training part will be around 8 am at the campsite, which the last few years has been off of 313 near the Lone Mesa Campground, roughly 30 minutes north of downtown Moab.

If you have never been to an old-school CM Pre-run, they are a lot of fun, but a lot of driving and a busy weekend. This week(end) is actually my favorite part of Cruise Moab. I learned most of what I know about 4 wheeling (especially in Moab) from learning from our Rising Sun experts on these runs.

Again, all are welcome! I am also reaching out to the Wasatch club and Bookcliff Cruisers to get some more attendees.

FYI there will be plenty of passenger seats available if you (or your rig) is not up for driving! And if you are not sure if you can afford the gas to get out there and back, please reach out to me here!

Thanks all, I can't wait and hope to see many of you out there!!

Tim
