I LOVE the xenon projector retrofit the PO did. Sharp cutoff is a mixed blessing for the reason @Corbet said. Otherwise they'll burn holes in the asphalt.

For animals, I just run some smaller SAE Rigid LEDs that are in my steel bumper and angled out a bit. They are wired to use the fog light switch.

I have LP9’s that I can run when there isn’t anyone else around. They spot everything. But when I can’t, that is the issue. My Impreza’s lights have the sharp cut off so I have experience with both and still prefer my old lights for my rural setting. If I lived in a metro area my opinion would be different.

I have some extra lights for animals on dark byways … four 85w PIAA halogens, maybe a bit overkill.
