Gusseted pants?

Last weekend when I was out in the Bald Mountain OHV Area out here in California, I ripped my nylon hiking pants from stem to stern getting into my truck. It wasn't a little tear. It was literally all the way from the front of the waistline to the rear of the waistline.

Does anyone have good things to say about a specific brand or model/line of outdoor-oriented pants that maybe have a crotch gusset or are stretchy?

Should I just bite the bullet and get a kilt?

Are spandex stretchy yoga pants an okay solution? :lmao:

Never had such a thing happen in Carhartts. Been buying the double front work pants lately. Not ideal for hiking though.

Same here. I’ve tried some Wranglers and Levi’s and they are getting tears in places that have never been a problem with my carhartts I used to wear. Think I will go back to them. Sorry about your hiking pants Douglas, all I can say is schoeller. I think cloudveil makes a light schoeller hiking pant as well as mammut.

I really like Prana, but there some variation within a labeled size.

Arcteryx Leaf cross functional pants are great.
Kuhl makes great stuff too.
TAD gear stuff is great, but pretty pricey. TAD kind of has a cult following.

Arcteryx... done.

I have also liked Mountain Khakis if I can find them under $50... but at $90 they don't last any longer than a pair of Carhartt's.

That's the key. Carhartts aren't the end-all, be-all but the double front ones are 50% of the price and last at least 85% as long. Over time it's a better deal for me. Plus, might mention that Mountain Khakis supports Conservation Alliance, which is anti-OHV.

I got a few pairs of Kuhls at an REI sale. I have been quite impressed with them so far, but I cannot comment on the longevity. For being a heavier fitted canvas pant they don't bind or pull at all. I was really surprised at how well they worked. Ha ha my comparison point was Levis though which are quite bad...

Kuhl has a unimog, but to my knowledge does not wheel it. I used to hang with one of the owners when I lived in SLC. He is a skier/MTB rider and really cool. He was building the mog back then.

I ended up finding some cheapo "Sanoma" brand pants at Khols that have gussets and were $20. So I'm using them for now until I lose a little weight to fit in the higher quality and more expensive jeans everyone recommended here.
