exactly. being prepared starts at vehicle maintenance. not just bringing parts, tools, n recovery gear.

I agree, just didn’t know if there were common failure points like there are on other vehicles. Although, it’s sounding like that’s not the case for these rigs which is sweet

I wouldnt say many are common, but there a few that'll ruin your 4x4 trip. For some reason the knuckle stud, nuts loosening and losing the knuckle assembly is my greatest fear lol.

Looks vaguely like a similar issue that the 1st gen Tacomas had with the bolts walking themselves out of the ball joint mounting. I would use loctite for my taco, is that not suggested with these trucks?

I just check the nuts every oil change, or before/after any long 4x4 trips.

Thought I’d treat myself to a set of fresh tires. She’s fitted up with some 285/75R16 Patagonia m/t’s. Still haven’t had any rubbing driving around town but I suspect it will on the trail. I’ll install a lift over the winter. How do we think she’ll do in Moab as is?

every tire is a little different, but I never had any issues while stock and full flex with rubbing when i had 285/75/16 duratracs on LX wheels.

^^THIS^^ 100% agree, protect that expensive sheet metal first. I've seen tons of non-lifted 80s do all kinds of stuff at Moab. IMHO the reason for any given lift is to fit the bigger tires you want to run.

Without and even with a lift the rear will drag a bunch, I see it has a bike rack which means it has a hitch correct? That will act as the rear slider.

I got a set of sliders from @Hulk that I’m going to try and get on before the trip, just need to catch up on some other maintenance first. Also yes I threw on a cheap hitch receiver with some scraping in mind.

First time I took the 80 to Moab rubbage occurred. Was very happy I had sliders. You might want to pull your mudflaps depending on the trail.

Haven't mounted mine, but I'd shoot 'em an email. My best guess is that the other nut is either not pictured or it uses a factory existing but.
