Going Back to Coney Flats

I am not an experienced trail leader and so I appreciate you all's advice. I am a good enough driver and spotter and all whom the hive mind have approved are welcome.

In my experience, just do it. It’s super easy to overthink being trail leader, have fun. Everything will work out how it’s supposed to. It is a skill like anything and the only way to get better at it is to do it.

At a drivers meeting it’s helpful to ask skill level or strengths of other drivers so it’s easier to delegate so you know who to lean on for certain tasks. You don’t have to be perfect at everything or do everything.

I agree, at the trail head the evaluation of drivers and rigs are necessary and the best decisions
will be made as a group. We will be in no hurry and a lot less traffic than before on Saturday. I feel
good about the adventure and I will be at the trail head about 8:30 -8:45 am. Should be fun.

Mark, after following you on the Coney Flats section of the recent club run on Middle St Vrain/Coney Flats I can say you are qualified to lead a club run without reservation. My judgement comes with 25 years of experience being a part of club runs and leading same. I would follow your lead again.

I've been meaning to ask, what kinds of things should / are people bringing for the Happy Hour?

Do you have a propane campfire? That would be nice.
Sweet Corn that was picked Monday morning.
Ripe Colorado Stone Fruit.
A Watermelon you put in the creek to cool off.

I might stay an extra day or 2 if I'm having too much fun, not sure if I'd move camps to explore somewhere else just depends what's up there and if somewhere looks fun lol.

Personally I don't drink so I'm not going to bring any alcohol. I always bring too much but I have an ooni pizza oven I'll bring, a camping grill, and and a 2 burner camp stove. I'm going to bring pizza ingredients to make fresh pizzas because I can, and I like pizza lol. I'll bring enough pizza to share or at least to make some cheese bread as a side if people want it lol.

I've been wanting to go on this trail and keep missing my chance by a hair. I don't want to do it alone as I might like some spotting just to be safe.

Yeah, my Surf needed a little tug because I got hung up on my fuel tank skid plate so I was glad I was with some people. It was my first time and definitely a good trip we all enjoyed it and talked about possibly going back up so maybe we can get another run at it before the season ends.

I'm part of a loose group of 4x4'ers on a Discord server and they're all afraid of the gate keeper and don't want to go. I checked it out on the 4th of July and it didn't look that bad. There's worse on the 505 trail from Caribou to Eldora. I ended up doing that something school road trail that's just before the Coney trailhead.

I'm part of a loose group of 4x4'ers on a Discord server and they're all afraid of the gate keeper and don't want to go. I checked it out on the 4th of July and it didn't look that bad. There's worse on the 505 trail from Caribou to Eldora. I ended up doing that something school road trail that's just before the Coney trailhead.

Yeah the gate keeper is there for a reason. But I got through the gate keeper and stuck on one of the last hard obstacles near the top. I was definitely scraping and bumping here and there on my 96 surf (4 runner) stock with 32" tires, but I was also loaded down with way too much camping gear lol. If I were empty I probably would've had another inch or 2 of suspension and would have been mostly fine. I think it's a fairly easy trail for pretty much any vehicle with at least a couple inches lift and 32"+ tires but it will make you choose the right line. I wouldn't be too scared to do it if a person has a fairly modified vehicle.

My 4runner has 3"ish lift in front and 4 in the rear and rolling on 33's. I should be fine.

I'll definitely keep an eye out for a run here.

I'm trying to get a group run on this trail on 9/12 with another group of people I 4x4 with and I'm not sure if they're really up for it because of their vehicles etc. So I'm just seeing if anyone here might want to do this again???
