Does anyone know what kind of visual inspection on a Utah titled 94 FZJ75 Troopy (non EFI) is required in the Denver area. Mine is a middle east model with vapor canisters in unmodified condition and everything seems to be there and it runs good. Do they just do a tailpipe inspection and run them on the dyno? Or do they rip you apart like the 81 and older inspections?

Does it have all of the "Emissions Controls", cats, EGR ect? Is it factory part-time 4WD? As long has it has all of the factory emissions controls, they should only run it on the 2WD rollers.

You might get lucky enough to find an emissions place that just runs it. But if you want to be safe, take it down to the state inspection sites & have it inspected as a grey market import. They'll then give you a form that you need to keep & show the emissions place every time you get it run. It will tell them that the state inspected it & also how they should inspect/test it for you (like saying it doesn't have factory cats, etc... for visual inspection, and what standard to pass it at for emissions).

My past 2 emission tests on my 45 and my 75 with the 1FZ-f were just ran on the rollers and sniffed the tail pipe. The station in Longmont off of airport road has not even lifted the hood on either of them. They did check the fuel cap for proper function.

The station in Dacono is where I go. Even though 30 min from Denver has always been best results.
On occasion I have gone to the one in Golden.
I have had the LongCruiser to the ref's in Littleton. That was with a fully intact stock setup under hood. Golden just was not sure how to test it.
I'd give Dacono a try. If pass, great! If not then you go to the ref.
Agree that they always test gas caps. Most of us 80 owners have our "emissions cap" OEM that comes out of the plastic bag every two years ....

Thanks everyone.. Some really great suggestions. It's always a pain to take time off of work only to drive over and fail for some obscure reason. I'm thinking I'll give it a shot at AirCare first then go see the techs to see what needs to be done.

I can vouch for @Capriblue45, I happened to be at the Longmont station getting my 60 tested when he showed up with his 45. There are a few simple tricks that can be done to help your chances of passing, nothing illegal just adjustments and fuel choice.
