"Down By The River"
Roy Buchanan

He eventually released a studio recorded cover on You're Not Alone in 1978. However this performance comes from a 1971 documentary about him called "Introducing Roy Buchanan" that aired in 1974 on WNET in New York City. Well worth 90 minutes of your life.

I don't think example T-rex, Nazareth, Frank Zappa will fit in here. 🤓

Sometimes I actually miss the 80's. Or is it the 1800's? Anyway, my blue vinyl copy sounds much better than this.

...what did I think? Music is in the ear of the beholder. I didn't think the song Damon picked was the strongest on the record. I liked "Bliss" and "Sin City" by John Legend alright, but I've always had a little bit of a bias since I've liked Lauryn Hill and The Fugees from way back. Also maybe "Don't Like" by Kanye I did like or "Cold" as well. I like hip-hop/rap (I've argued that it became the new punk in the 80s and 90s when a lot of punk wasn't socially aware or willing to piss people off anymore). I even like me some electronic (say along the lines of Hot Chip, Four Tet, El Ten Eleven, Caribou).

Hard to put a finger on it but probably the overuse of auto tune is where hip-hop and rap lost me. It's bad enough when it was just used to cover up flaws (I *want* to hear what is real) but the way it morphed into a sound. That digital effect just annoys me and it seems around 2005 every pop song was using it. But then again, it's an art. Someone could easily argue the Roland TR-808 is a travesty, but, the ever so eloquent Sir Mix-A-Lot...

"The 808 kick drum makes the girlies get dumb
We're rollin' Rainier and the jealous wanna get some
Every time we do the sucka MCs wanna battle
I'm the man they love to hate, the J.R. Ewing of Seattle."

So.
