Always loved this tune. Admittedly I don’t know much about the Pandoras other than Kim Shattuck was in the band. This is a rippin two and a half minutes.

That's from It's About Time and just 4 years before the song I posted (that video was 1988). Such a morph in sound. I like their earlier sound and can definitely understand why you would, too. I came across them in high school, though, in their later version. By the late 80s with the keyboard and harder sound that particular video got play on MTV, very early on a new at-the-time show called Headbanger's Ball... They were close to breaking out but I think their trajectory was to burn out anyway since I'm not sure fame would have fit well.

Another band that comes to mind is the The Delinquents, from Austin in 1981. Similar, maybe a bit more New Surf Waveish than the Pandoras. They actually had an album where they backed up Lester Bangs at some point.

Oh man, Headbanger’s Ball. That brings back memories.

I’ll check out this other band today.

I’m just happy this is finally on Apple Music. It’s been years…

Any jazz people out there? Every once a n a while I’ll pull out this album. It’s one of my favorites because it feels like a story than a straight jazz record. What else is in your playlist?

I can think of someone right here in the friendly digital confines who's fan enough to honor the angry man by bestowing the name on a furry family member.

I like Charles Mingus a lot too. Really into the various jazz forms from the 50s on. We get out to different Denver clubs on a nearly weekly basis and have many friends who are fine players. My record library is a mix of old and new.

I’ve always been a fan of “less formal” jazz. I always enjoyed that album by Mingus but some of the other stuff not so much. I’d have to say though, John Coltrane’s Expressions album kinda drives me crazy haha.

Crazy in a good way or run out of the room screaming and pulling your hair out? 😜

ORGM-1078 repress in 2016 on that blue 180 gram for Vinyl Me Please. The source for it is said to be the remastered lacquer by Bernie Grundman and Chris Bellman in 2013, runout etching is the same as that version anyway. The pressing is by Pallas but the etch is P.USA so I don't know if that means it's actually pressed in Diepholz or Furnance domestically.

Anytime BG and CB are involved the finished product is going to sound as good as the tapes they were using can sound, as you know. Pallas usually does good work too. (y)

It was kind of a stand out at VMP. I got quite a few mediocre ones. I think sometimes they used Music on Vinyl sources and there were constantly noisy or warped ones. I don't have a problem at all with 16-bit music but I'm listening to my DAC on purpose. Back then (VMP may be different now) I don't think most subscribers were quite "there" yet what with the proliferation of hipster Crosley record players.

Not laughing at your choice of delivery but at the Crosley reference. Fads and trends can be so amusing. 😵‍💫
