SEMO Bulldogs. Right?
SEMO Indians back then! And the women were known as Otahkians, named to honor princess Otahki who died on the Trail of Tears through southern Missouri. She is memorialized at the state park near Cape. The teams are now known by the so very generic Redhawks. Yawn.

I've only been able to see Social Distortion a couple of times. Once was a huge concert in St. Louis called Pointfest. I guess it would have been either 1996 or 1997. It would have been right about when we moved to Denver so must have been 1997.

The other, funny enough since @ajordan1975 mentions the Bottlerockets, was in Indianapolis. We drove over from Cape Girardeau (where I was in school) to see them in October 1990. Even then they had become kind of big so it was a decent sized place. Couldn't tell you the name of it, though. Not long after they finished that tour they got hooked up and were opening for Neil Young and Sonic Youth.

Ironic because...

My sister went to SEMO. Are you from MO?

Grew up in Orange County in the late 70s and early 80’s, so was exposed to a lot of punk. Social D, TSOL, agent orange, but really loved X. I think the Blasters, Los Lobos, and Rank and File influenced me and now I love the outlaw country stuff and bands like DBT and Lucero. Glad to know others like the same music!

I was born in St. Louis (went to Affton high school, if you're from St. Louis you'll understand) and went to SEMO from 1989 to 1994. Knocked around a while until we ended up in Colorado in 1997 and stayed.
I’m from St Charles. My dad grew up in Maplewood.

The Germs
"Land of Treason"
GI

Land of treason, waste no reason
We are breathing fire
We're packs of dogs, we're enemies of men
We are not desired

Our faces show, we've grown cold
But have not conspired
Old hearts gone, the future's on
Mother nations mired

I like a receptacle for the chosen dead
We find our bodies clawed
With the scent of death
We find that we are not so very awed

Loyalties burned, the words are blurred
Overturn your own
Walk like dogs and watch the doors
Have your other stone

Stop the toys that match disordered
Calculate the thrones
Feel the pulse descending
Decaying hallowed tomes

In the starving sense you worship
The nations of debris
You wear a cost of sewage
That you've never even seen

The time is now, the vicious here
A stolen dinner code
The license of the savage land
That you've always sold

So bite the hand that needs you
And bless another coal
The virus never issues
From a cotton so very old

As the lights come down
(Unknown lyric)
You wash your hands and start to climb
The ladder that you stole

Slip the hatch and spin the sword
The money lords are poor
Push the tan that rolls downhill
Their sense of dream absorbed

Still the cat that breaks the night
Tie him to the core
Chase the viruses that believe
That what's right is scored

It's a senseless cash in right for right
What's wrong is never gone
And left is just a passion
For the fools golden dawn

Always good to have subtitles for a Darby Crash song!

TSOL was always my favorite band. Not going to post the lyrics, as they are NSFW1

"Nothing"
Uncle Tupelo
Still Feel Gone

Been traveling around some
Crossing people's paths
Some, they stand right in your way
Others like to watch you pass

Been trying to memorize
All the different lies
That people must tell themselves
Each night to justify their lives

Don't call it nothing
This might be all we'll ever have

Held myself for ransom
Wanderin' so blind
I found roads less traveled
To take you off my mind

And I told myself I know
Everything I do
I'm just looking for something
To lead me away from you

Don't call it nothing
This might be all we'll ever have

I know it's not enough
To make it sound like more
So I swear if there's a God
To make him sleep on the floor

Been traveling around some
Crossing people's paths
Some, they stand right in your way
Others like to watch you pass

Don't call it nothing
This might be all we'll ever have
I'll ever have, ever have
