Happy Wednesday to all you legends! Hope all are well.

I received an email to the TLCA address asking about registering an imported 1993 Land Cruiser here in Colorado.

I didn't know the answer but I knew right away where I could go to get it! Any info? Thanks in advance!

[name removed] asked me to contact you for your advice or experience with the State of Colorado Emissions Testing for his 1993 Toyota Land Cruiser, a diesel vehicle made in Japan.

He purchased the vehicle from an Oregon owner and is trying to Register and Plate the vehicle in Colorado.

Please let me know if you have any advice or experience on whether it will pass the State of Colorado’s Diesel Opacity Inspection.

Thank you in advance for your help in this matter.

You have to take it and get a DR2365 form completed before a station will test it for opacity. For JDM imports usually you will have to turn the fuel down in order to pass opacity.

what are his questions? If he's moving to a non emissions part of the country, I think he just registers it & moves on. Especially if he already has an Oregon title. If he's moving to an emissions area, is the engine stock? If not, he could have issues.

IF it is, make an appointment with the state inspection office to get the vehicle inspected. Get inspection & take cert. to emissions place & hand it to them. They'll run it based on teh instructiosn on the cert.

If it is stock & good running, it should pass with no issues. If he's turned up his fuel, it might fail. If he has turned up his fuel, he'll need to put the seals back in place before inspection.

If his seals are already gone, tell him not to waste time getting an appointment. They'll just make him leave, get the seals & come back. They are just the little lead/wire seals like you see on gas & electric meters. You can get them from Amazon super cheap. If he's local to Boulder I'm happy to help show him where they go, depending on what engine it is (assume I can figure it out on any of them, but I've never seen some models of Toyota diesels.

Appreciate all the info, Abe!

As far as I can tell from the email, he's here in Colorado. Vehicle is originally from Japan but has been registered in Oregon most recently.

Based on my recent experience a few months ago, the State Inspection office was surprisingly easy. I did not have the little lead wire seals on my pump. They just marked it with yellow paint. Maybe I was just lucky...get the wires like was mentioned so you're not wasting your time. My 95 HDJ81 also had a non-stock 3" SS exhaust system. No issues that either. I read all sorts of horror stories about this inspection office so I was nervous sitting there in their small crappy lobby waiting for the results.

Ive got appointments Monday for my FTE swapped LX450, both the state visual inspection, and then the diesel opacity test.

Im not getting my hopes up, ive completely removed the intake crossover, so no EGR at all.

Fingers crossed.
