We have a special guest coming all the way from Louisiana. I asked can you bring some food we can reheat. He said yes of course!

Here is what he proposed. I need to know who’s interested so we can determine quantity. Figure 10 or 15 bucks a head. We’ll do this on Saturday night.

Sorry for the short notice but let me know by noon today because he has to get the order in today

Gumbo (ill probably do a jug of each)
-chicken and sausage
-seafood
(If somebody wants to make a fresh potato salad out there. Instead of trying to freeze it down here. )

I can bring some Louisiana grown (actually from my home town) rice if somebody can cook it that day. If a few of us make rice and pots will do fine.

Boudin
. (Sort of like a jambalaya but not really)
-regular
-smoked
If you’ve never had Boudin you’re in for a treat but especially if it’s from BestStop THE only place for the best Boudin. I’d say it’s more of a bits and pieces/rice sausage vs jambalaya though….. best grilled so the casing gets crispy!

If it’s not too late add two to Gumbo night. We just got back to cell service.
Let me know if we made the cut.

Thank you for the offer

Thanks for the delish food offer Daniel and Cody! Please count me in. I will post the offer to the Wasatch Cruisers forum.

The roster on the first post is up to date now between both forums. Currently it looks like:
I also added an administrative note for folks to please bring some spare cash in case we need to pay for campsites, foods, etc.

Echo Park is a paid campsite as a forum friend on the Wasatch Cruisers reminded me. He offered to help investigate how full it appears to be on Saturday and Sunday. I will report back with news about Echo Park availability and if we need to make any reservations.

Allen
Thanks for all your hardwork putting this together but, it looks like we're swamped putting the RMOE event on and won't be able to make this.

Have a great time and be safe!

Bear fire near the Dinosaur Nat'l Monument. Not very big but something to be aware of.

Hey Allen, I am taking the kids over to the Quarry exhibit on Saturday. I won't be able to hook up with you guys for the run, but was looking at your map and might try to use that first camp site on Saturday night. Do you know if it's suitable for ground tents?

Hey Doug! The Quarry is awesome to check out, especially with kids. If I were a kid again I'd SO LOVE to see the Quarry, sometimes I'm uncertain I ever grew up if I let my imagination run wild. Also if you have a chance I'd also recommend checking out the petroglyphs in nearby Cub Creek and maybe Josie Morris' cabin.

And good question! To actually answer: the first camp site on Saturday night will be either Echo Park if we drive slow-ish, or Castle Rock if we drive fast-ish. Considering the size of the confirmed roster now, I expect we will drive on the slower side so we will likely camp at Echo Park Saturday night.
  • Echo Park Coordinates: 40.52152, -108.99339
    • Be aware. If we camp at Echo Park we are required to pay for camp spots. Bring cash just in case.
  • Castle Rock Coordinates: 40.46978, -108.90050

Sorry, should have been more clear - I was meaning the camp site on the river you guys will be using on Friday night. We'll probably arrive in the area Saturday afternoon so I was thinking that might be a good spot to camp before we head to the Quarry on Sunday morning. And if you know of any other good dispersed sites in that neck of the woods let me know!

Cody and I just sat down for dinner in kremling and probably you’re gonna just camp up here on Rabbit Ears pass. If anybody’s driving today give a holler.

@Mrs Hulk and I are in Steamboat Springs for the night at a hotel. We both need to work tomorrow a.m. :( We plan to finish working at noon, pack up, buy a few groceries, and hit the road. See you all at Campsite #1 in the late afternoon / early evening.

@allen.wrench - I see in post #1 you list Ham frequency 147.540 and FRS/GMRS Channel 6. We'll be on that ham frequency for the rest of the trip and will turn on our handheld GMRS radio to Channel 6 once we cross into Utah.

For the actual run, we may want to switch to a channel in the 15-22 range. For those of us who have a GMRS license, we can transmit with significantly more power than other channels.
