Yup it's the cats. I only have one cat on my truck and it still passes.. make sure you don't have any exhaust leaks before the O2 sensor either. Drive it and get it real hot, don't shut it off while in line either.

Talked to Derrick at Stevenson and he quoted me 1500 for new cats. He said there are only 7 left in the country.

Just have an exhaust shop weld you on new ones. There’s no magic in OEM cats.

There must be a little magic in them. My NOx numbers have continued to climb since I installed the aftermarket cats.

Personally, I would not run stock or even full size aftermarket cats after running hi flows (full time). It would seem like you pulled a plug wire or two.

Maybe. My aftermarket cats have at least 5-7 years on them and are working great still. They might even be much older than that, would have to check.

I would hope so! Are they standard or high flow?

I have 2 aftermarket cats installed by AA Performance and they perform great -- very low emissions numbers. I would not pay the money for Toyota parts in this case.

Would it make sense to replace the O2 sensors at this point? I replaced them about 6 years ago. Also what would be a good brand of Cat to purchase as a replacement if I need to replace them? I reviewed my previous emissions history and the year that I used factory tires and rims to test with I had the lowest emissions numbers, so hopefully once I pick up and put on the set Uncle Ben has I can at least get the numbers down to passing.

Can you scan in real time? If yes, then watch your o2 readings. If the readings are constantly changing by several digits your sensors are working correctly. If the sensors only change by a small margin they are compromised. You are only concerned about sensor 1 as its controlling your ecu. Sensor 2 just pops a mil if it thinks the cats are bad. Use a temp gun on your cats. They should be a lot hotter than your inlet pipe.

I have a small Jegs oil catch at the PCV valve. Do you think that could affect the emissions results at all?

Howdy ya'll, I am starting to sound like a broken record but I failed my 3rd emissions test with high CO's. I replaced my O2's with OEM and my numbers doubled from 21.5 to 44. The limit is 20.0 for a 94. Not sure what to do next. I did an oil change about a month ago, cleaned out the factory air filter, replaced the spark plugs, ran two bottles of red heat through before testing. Kinda at my wits end now. Any suggestions will help.

Thanks.

Was this with a little tire as well?

Any chance you could have swapped the O2 sensor harnesses? If the upstream harness is plugged into the downstream sensor, that might mess it up.

Emissions system wise, PAIR valve and cats are generally what control CO on your truck. Fuel injection system and ignition are obviously the #1 controller of emissions. A bad fuel pressure regular could easily cause this. Can you post a photo of the total result?

I ran the gauntlet with the 315's at the Sheridan station this time because I felt confident that I could pass once I swapped the O2's out. I will post the results later when I get home. NOx and HC's were under the limit so good there.

On the 93-94 80's with the fat cats, both O2's are up stream of the cats side by side. I don't think you could plug the wrong one in but I am sure there is a first for everything.
