I'll be there to have some fun with y'all as a club member and bring a couple of colleagues to share some info from our volunteer work with Colorado 4x4 Rescue & Recovery, show some of the gear we use, and and if you're game demonstrate some recovery techniques :)

I think this is a great idea. The snow run is usually a day of constant recovery where everyone gets a chance to recover or get recovered. Safe practices for both the people and vehicles is paramount. I enjoy seeing how far I can go before I can go no more and am usually exhausted by the end of the day. If I were to sustain damage to myself or vehicle, it would not be a good day. If I get pulled out a dozen times with no damage, then I usually have a grin on my face for the next week!

No damage + no injuries + no drama = good day! I'll bring my get stuck face and a bunch of shovels :)

In there like swimwear!
What would you all say is a good starting point for recovery gear? The 4/5/6 most necessary pieces?

Recovery points on your rig, kinetic rope, soft shackles, steel bow shackles. Of course, these are only good to recover someone or be recovered by someone.
If you wheel alone, a winch, winch extensions, tree saver, along with the shackles.

And the knowledge to use this equipment.

We will spend a little time talking about this if you stick around to chat with me and the Colorado 4x4 Rescue & Recovery folks. There is a lot of gear out there, but a lot of it I would not recommend - the more you know before you buy, the happier you will be in the long run. Buy once cry once. And get some training 🙂

I will be taking full advantage of the opportunity to stick around and learn. My own experiences in construction and rigging provide a firm foundation, but the physics are different on the ground. Sign me up for the training

Besides the common recovery gear, I like a long handled square point shovel. Great for reaching under your truck if you get high centered and digging out your tires can sometimes be all you need to get unstuck. Also great for digging up dirt to throw on icy hill climbs. My favorite tool,I carry 2 of them with me, because a shovel works a lot better than a pair skis. That’s a story in itself.

Great points. Buy junk gear, people and rigs can get damaged. Use it wrong, people and rigs get damaged.

I'm in, and I'm super pumped! I was on the Spooky Run that became a Snow Run and that was a great experience... looking forward to more. Currently one truck and one driver, but I'll see if anyone wants to tag along.
