Should be in Erie after 4:30 today. Initial plan is to clean and organize the shop. That helps organize my head.
Then probably wiring. Honestly not sure how more than me can work there on this. If I do pull the transmission this weekend, then help definitely helps. two under truck and two handing tools.
But, transmission guy advises I at least drive around the block and getting the truck in and out will require some cleanup and then two or more people to help reposition it, air out of tires, air into tires..
Tonight I will give some RPMs again and watch how much gushes,
Once I connect battery cables, front face assembly follows. that can probably happen tonight. crosspieces, grill headlights and bumper - def a 2-4 person job to carry bumper with winch into shop, attach and bolt up.

Can you run the transmission through some gears with the truck up on jack stands? It might make it easier to collect the fluid in a bucket if the vehicle isn't moving.

I could. What does this accomplish?

It’s like driving it but you don’t have to take it out of the garage

Today I removed and resealed the oil pan with some permatex Great Stuff. Although purportedly you can put it back in service immediately I let it set up for a couple hours while I did some wiring and had dinner. Then after about 20 minutes of idling, all the oil started dripping again. 😞

Tomorrow I remove the exhaust, front driveshaft and unbolt rear driveshaft, unplug everything on the transmission and transfer case, remove the transfer case and transmission, and redo the rear engine plate and crankshaft seal.

Today, I also used a boroscope to look for where could be leaking and checked the oil pressure sensor, which was dry and the camshaft sensor, which was new and didn’t appear to have any oil puddling. There is also no oil coming from the crankshaft sensor.

Good news is that the transmission fluid leak is coming from the front of the transmission pan. Tomorrow after I drain the transmission for removal,I will install a new transmission gasket and use some of the Permatex in the front area.

Not sure what time I’ll get started. Anyone who’s interested in tossing around a transfer case and transmission is welcome to come up midday.

Wish I was local still and could come help. Keep up the good work and don't let the deadlines get you down. Always takes 3x longer than anticipated, at least for me. 🙂

Removed and replaced the transmission and transfer case to get to the rear crank seal. I had definitely installed that sucker too high, which either tweaked the bottom ability to seal or left the gap at the top. Since the oil dripping didn’t start till it was warmed up about 15 minutes, I’m guessing top but don’t really know. Any event, new gaskets and seals in using the alignment tool and confidence is high.
Could not have completed it without @satchel
Actually, couldn’t have done any of this project without him, but he physically worked on it today.

There!

Today finished reconnecting a whole bunch of stuff. Just ran it for 30 minutes and no oil drip. Tiny drip of transmission fluid from the front edge of the pan so maybe I need to buy a new pan maybe this one’s bent but that’s not a big deal so I’m gonna keep putting it back together!
