The factory speaker for the original Nippon Denso AM radio in my 1978 FJ45 is starting to sound a little crackly. Maybe it is time to look into replacing it with something newer?
nah, preserve that vintage sound! Lol.

You can buy vintage-look and fit head units with modern features.

Installing this tonight. Tired of the sloppy Frankensteined stock shifter shifter w/ a trailblazer shift cable.

Aside from redoing my front brakes entirely (the front master stuck ON…never had that before) I used the trail gear kit and put a 115 amp GM 1 wire alternator on over the stock 70 amp Toyota. For the first time in my memory the volt meter stuck right at 14 and barely moved when my fan lights or winch was running.

I ran a 4 gauge wire direct from the alternator back to the battery. That’s it.

Install of shifter done. Very happy w/ it so far.
Tomorrow I’m going to install a 10” fan in the trans cooler w/ some brackets that @DomOfTheDead made up for me. Nut and bolt check, and top off fluids. Off to Black Hills Wednesday!

Finally got mine into the shop to assess a valve adjustment and carb swap. Also, trying to figure out options of camperizing the back. What have others done with the rear of the 60's to reduce weight, clutter and just make it a "grab and go" camping rig?

I had a local tire shop install the Walmart-online-sourced Kenda Klever 33x9.5s on my FJ40 rims yesterday. Each tire took half as much balance weight of the old BFGs - just an ounce +/- per tire.

They are smooth at 70 mph, seem to have great traction and ride well. I put 29 psi in them, since that is plenty for a stock FJ40.

It’s been a little over a year, right Daniel? I would wager you put your tires through more miles and more diverse conditions than most people so it’s good to hear they are working out well for you.

Saturday July 9:
1) 98 degrees out. Start LongCruiser drive to Seattle.
2) 98 degrees out. Have R134 dump out somewhere in the LongCruiser AC lines in the engine compartment just as fast as you can put it in.
3) 98 degrees out. Start calling club members who tend to have parts.
4) 98 degrees out. Park under a shade tree at @Notyourmomslx450.
5) 98 degrees out. Cooler in shade. Remove T on low pressure side and install a stock line from Andy. Remove T on high pressure side and reconnect lines with new o-ring.
6) 98 degrees out. Cooler in shade. Add R134. No hiss.
7) 98 degrees out. Cooler in shade. Take three Jordans for ice cream LongCruiser ride and test run.
8) 98 degrees out. Cooler in shade. Cooled in Baskin Robbins. Eat Ice Cream.
9) 98 degrees out. Cooler in shade. Cooled by Baskin Robbins. Drive Jordans home.
10) 61 degrees out. Type this message from Seattle. Drove here in LongCruiser through temps as high as 99 degrees with A/C on bast the whole way.

:risingsun Thanks this time to @Notyourmomslx450 and @NotyourmomsWife

11) It will be in the 70's Saturday July 16 when I drive my nephew and his groomsmen to his wedding in LongCruiser.

Simple oil change... 8 bolts to remove the schrockworks front 3 (of 5) skids so I didn't blast oil everywhere. Found a missing bolt and shim. Changed oil and filter. Logged oil change. Last one was 6k ago in December of 2020 (jist rolled over 200k). Lubbed entire drive line and front UCAs. Reinstall front 3 skids. Locate used bolt and temporarily use washers as shims. Found out bolt abandoned ship because threas in tacked on nut don't want to snuggle the bolt any more. Not sure what to do with that in the short term... guess I'll run it without. Mostly whole again and ready to go another few k.

Side note, does anyone know where get or have experience with these drain plug valves so I can just slip a hose on and turn the pet-cock? I have plenty of space between the skid and the drain plug to do this.
