The old Deuce and a Halfs get something like 4-8 mpg on just about anything you can make flow into the fuel tank that's combustible. Basically same thing as operating an old Unimog. An oil change would really hurt your wallet. If you need tires, probably it's better to buy a different Deuce and a Half rather than trying to reshoe it.

As long as it doesn't end like what happened to this guy: https://www.instagram.com/5toncamper/?hl=en

Spoiler alert: the camper burned down although I think the underlying truck survived to fight another day.

"The bank consists of 3 12v car batteries. It gets worn down each day because the truck has a heated fresh water tank that is always drawing current. I also leave the heat on at least 40deg 24/7."

First mention I have seen of a fridge causing a fire. Alot of DIY wiring may have contributed.

I'd guess the DIY wiring and maybe too much current draw over the batteries.

That's probably true. I know of a couple M934A2 (the radio variant) for sale. They typically go for a few thousand. The Cummins 6CTA holds something like 20 quarts of engine oil.

I'm no hipster, but these things are awesome. Just not practical and as everyone says not easy on the maintenance budget. I've wanted one for almost as long as I've wanted a HUMVEE. Whenever I got on base as a kid I thought the HUMVEE's looked like the coolest off road vehicles around.

That's no worse than many RVs. My Gramps 2003ish 37" RV got 5-8 driving around NM, AZ, UT and CO.

Yes but you wouldn't put $100/linear foot reclaimed barn find vintage fire charred lumber on as siding for the "tiny house" (fancy word for a poorly constructed trailer or RV) on the back of the deuce and a half. There's the difference :D

But gramps was rockin' it in a 37" RV that was probably WAY nicer than that weirdness they are showing tacked onto the back of that weird ass rig with a racing seat (really?!) and horrible bench seat for your passenger. Gramps probably also had AC. And it was probably quiet in there too. and it probably drove OK.

84 Pickup in really good shape.

This WAS what my truck looked like originally (same color paint and interior). Before the PO decided to paint it four different colors, sell the bed, and use the inside for a dog kennel

The PO (previous owner) did all of this before you owned it?

The original sure did. He fancied himself an artist and my truck was his canvas. When I bought it, it was literally 10 different colors. The worst and most predominate being an aqua green that looked like he tried to texturize it. He also painted the carpet black for some reason. When my Dad and I painted it, we had to take it down to bare metal to get rid of all the layers of paint on it. It originally was the dark silver/ grey, then it was painted white, then brown, then aqua.

The second owner purchased a blue/black/primer grey bed off of craigslist that had more holes in it then swiss cheese.

It was the ugliest truck I have ever seen but I wanted a solid axle and it was the only one I could find at the time and I needed a truck fast.

The only thing the original owner did right was etching geisha's into my xtra cab glass. Hence her name now.
