@HDavis the guy I forwarded it to is apparently first in line. The guy posted that motor while on vacation (eye roll) and won’t be back for a few days. Whoever ends up with it will give it a good home for sure.

Another expo trailer opportunity. $250. Seems like a great starting point.

Wouldn't the whole "no title" thing require an inspection etc to actually be used on road?

Can you explain how you did this? I went to the dmv with a similar situation and it did not go well. Thanks,

It’s only barely more than that. I had to get a Colorado title for a trailer I bought from a state that did not title them. I did need an inspection that consisted of a CSP Trooper checking that the lights worked. I think that’s all the regulations require but perhaps if it’s super sketchy home built the inspector *might* not like it but then again I’ve seen plates on serious junk.

Another option if titling proves to be difficult is to register your trailer in Maine. $99 for a 5 year registration. You need their inspection forum and a bill of sale. Even easier if you do have the title. I did the math on it and I'll save $100 registering it in ME vs. CO.

Mine is a homebuilt from about 10 years ago and the dmv said I need to bring in the receipts from building it. I don't have any as I used steel that was laying around from other projects and an old truck axle someone gave me. They told me I need the receipts, then I can get temp tags to take it to state police for inspection, then I can come back and get plates for it. I've been using it a long time with no plates as a utility trailer and have never been bothered by the police. But I have been wanting to repurpose it into a camping trailer, so I think plates would be wise if I sink more time and gear into it. I would hate to have it towed away with all my camping gear and stuff in it.

I think this greatly depends upon who you're working with at the dmv. my buddy just jotted down random prices of the main materials to submit for titling his utility trailer and they accepted it along with his weight slip and police inspection.

I say keep it simple, cheap, and push past the dmv bs.I got my plate and registration a week or two ago.

Looks like the Maine route wont work for me as I would need to have the inspection form completed by someone in Maine since I dont have a VIN.

You didn't buy lights or tires or a tongue for it? You have literally zero receipts? Or did you present receipts for that stuff and they also want it for the steel?

You just print their inspection page and bring it to the local police dept inspector.

Back to the old trailer. Looks like a WWII T3 minus the fenders, and different hitch rather than the lunette ring. I bought one years ago, and upon inspection the Trooper asked if I would like to get a home-made VIN from the state. Would have been that easy! I still had the build/delivery plate on it, and asked to use the actual serial number as the VIN. had to go back to the DMV for a background check for that serial number (came back clear) and was given plates on the spot.

Just get a trailer weight slip before your inspection appointment, make sure the lights work and it's road worthy, and you'll probably get right through.
