It is nice to drive the 80 again. Got it fixed this weekend and the same day the entire exhaust fell off imelda. Broke at the Y pipe. She needs some love!
The exhaust I put on it was Walker plain old 1-3/4"or 1-7/8", I forget. Along the lines of this. That was at least 14 years and pre-Iowa salt ago!

Saw this very stock looking beauty at the grocery store today. Almost broke my neck trying to see it when I saw it in my peripheral 🤣

Saw another 250 today, drive the other way on a small two lane road. I waved and got a look like I was a crazy person. I hope it doesn’t go this way with all 250 owners. Respect your elders!
I got the same look from a guy in a 250 the other day when I was loading stuff in my 80 and gave him a wave.

Awesome pic! I wonder when we will see a 250 drivetrain in a 60? Mud will find a way eventually. ...

It might be a while. There is a TON of software controlling all that stuff, from the turbo (I wish it had a boost gauge) to most especially, when to get power from the electric motor and or the ICE or both and when and how to stuff electrons back into the battery pack. It appears there are 3 ways to perform the latter.
  1. The obvious, from the ICE powering the electric motor as a generator.
  2. Regenerative braking.
  3. And according to the owner's manual, going down a long downhill.
The clutch between the ICE and the electric motor is just magic. I *think* there isn't a conventional starter motor, it sounds and feels like the electric motor is what starts the ICE. And the ICE starts and stops on its own whenever the software sees what it thinks means we don't need the ICE running. I look down at the tach as I'm driving along and it is at zero. Then when the software thinks it needs the ICE, all of a sudden the ICE is running and you can't feel anything by the seat of your pants it's so smooth. It does feel like at most mid and higher throttle settings the ICE is always running. Under high acceleration, I can not tell how much is coming from the turbo and how much is from the electric motor helping out, but it's all really, really seamless.

good camping trip up on north fork of the swan river

got some wheel time behind Rusty’s 250 first edition.

saw @snobored and some of his buddies..

man maybe it was pulling eisenhower in third gear in my 82 then up the trail with them leaf springs, contrasted with that 250 on the trail…

but it’s like a cheat code with all that tech
cameras down the line of your tires what’s in front of you behind you

the hill descent assist and whatever the climbing one is called…

unreal i know it gets a lot of hate on mud
but that drive train
that size
that tech…
hard to beat..

in unrelated news to my growing covetousness over the new land cruiser…
my little honda trail 110 did pretty good up there with its low range before i snapped the throttle cable death gripping the bars up a steep section up near the top…
walk of shame back to camp

i want a 250

Yeah that wasn't me. I am still considering what will be Beren's (yes that's his name and the first male named Toyota in our menagerie) first off road trail. I was trying to goad my wife into a little adventure this afternoon up Yankee Hill and we got as far as about half way down the US40 side of Floyd Hill when we hit gridlock. Oh gee thanks CDoT for your projects cutting I-70 and thus US40 off even on a Sunday

For those interested, Beren was a mortal man in love with an immortal elf, Luthien in Tolkien's middle earth. Their story is in the Silmarillien.

Back to Jim's alluding to us 250 owners respecting our elders, I kind of had a reverse respect yesterday when a guy in a late model (2020 or maybe 2021, not sure) URJ200 pulled out in front of me from Lair 'O the Bear Park going east down the canyon and I saw his face in his side view mirror and he grinned and gave me a thumbs up, and I returned it.
