Christo will have a 16 White Tacoma in a couple of weeks that he will use to prototype bumpers, sliders etc and take to shows etc. Stay tuned. Shortbus style bumper on a new Taco would be cool looking.

Interesting. That's quite a departure from his past stance on all things non-Cruiser.

*I'm only half kidding about mall credibility. Didn't realize it until I went back to a stock truck, but with a substantial bumper you tend to get cut off in traffic less...

I am now getting waves from cruiser guys the day I put my arb bumper on up front. Nothing else had changed, it cracked me up.

Anyone with the 2nd or third gen Taco's put kids seats in the back? I know Jacket has, and his experience, by my recollection, is that its pretty cramped in the 4 doors. Was that with both rear and front facing, or just rear?

At some point, I would like a pickup (SEVERAL years down the road here). With all of my hobbies/house responsibilities, the ability to haul stuff in a bed would be ideal. I'm leaning towards a Tundra/F150 style, just for more capacity/room in the cabin. The Tacoma fits my sense of proportion a bit better though (parking in the garage, etc..). But, the reality is, I need enough room in the backseat. Currently, I cannot put a rear facing seat behind the driver seat in my 4Runner, which, I believe, has more leg room than the 2nd and 3rd gen tacos. If I can't get a front facing seat behind the driver seat, then a Taco won't be for me (at least not for quite a while).

Appreciate any feedback.

Couldn't say about a car seat but the Double Cabs we test drove felt like the back seat of a 4Runner other than having the back window right behind your head. It didn't seem particularly cramped. We ended up with an Access Cab because a 6' bed was an absolute and the DCLB was r-e-a-l-l-y l-o-n-g. As it is the 2nd gen Tacoma feels big to us compared to mini trucks and 1st gens. I'd expect you'd be OK with kids probably up to like 12 fine.

For perspective, in the '91 I could reach the sliding rear window while driving but in the Access Cab I have to wait for a stop light because I have to unbuckle. In the Double Cab I couldn't reach the back window at all from the driver's seat. I'm pretty average sized I like to think, too.

FYI, I can't even get Sage's rear facing seat behind the driver seat of the 80.

Does anyone know is a 2016 4runner has more room in the back seat than a 2016 taco Double Cab?

Isaac, I have a 2013 Dbl cab with child--booster seat in the back and there's tons of room for a long legged 9 year old and her grandma.

Yeah I figured older kids would be okay. It's the infant and convertible seats that are the trick. Rear facing takes up gobs of room for the size package they are carrying.

I suppose I should ask people's heights. I'm 6'. My seat is pretty far back when I'm driving, so that also plays into it. If my wife is driving, there is plenty of room for the infant seat behind her.

I don't like how the cab and bed look like they're from different trucks right where they meet. looks like it was rushed in design.

That's true of the short box Double Cab 2nd gen, too. The long bed Double Cab bed is shared with the Access and regular cabs and has right profile.

The 1st gen box looks right.

You can see the difference between long (6') and short (4.5') beds, the continuation of the body side profile into the bed ahead of the wheel well. It's been like that since 2005 so it's not an oversight. I thought they should stop that lower undercut at the back of the cab and do a different one in the bed if they want or not with the short box. I don't think it looks quite right even when it's there because the cab/bed gap is fairly obvious on light colored trucks.

That last one looks like it's primer. Toyota must be looking at too many Craigslist adds for early 80's beater pickups for inspiration. Even did a poser shot an a "rock". Not that there's anything wrong with that! :hill:

This thing is parked next to the breaking bad RV:
