They sound weird. They are in my hood all the time.
Since late 2018/early 2019, EVs and hybrids have been mandated to have “AVAS” or acoustic vehicle alerting system that basically uses speakers to pump out artificial noise under 30kmh/18.6mph so pedestrians hear them at low speeds in lieu of engine noise. The Rivian built Amazon delivery van makes an obnoxious noise that to me sounds like a bad wheel bearing, but I noticed later on it’s actually the same acoustic sound they play in their Ram gasoline delivery vans instead of the proverbial “beep, beep, beep” in reverse. So as annoying as it is, it’s an Amazon and federal regulation thing rather than a Rivian thing - it’s just more pronounced on EVs since there is no other noise when driving at low speeds. Side note - they are REALLY fun to drive
