🐧🐧🐧Let's go snow wheeling! 🐧🐧🐧

Saturday December 31, 2022 (day of new years eve)

Where: rainbow falls
When:
meet at trailhead 9am https://goo.gl/maps/m4xZQSc6EnkRWzsb8
drivers meeting, air down and roll out 930-10am
What to bring:
your well-equipped rig, warm clothes, extra clothes, boots, gloves, good recovery gear, traction boards or shovel, tire chains, water, hot cocoa or coffee, snacks, any other additional items needed for a potential long day in the snow
What not to bring: improper tires, impatience, unpreparedness, snow wheeling can be grueling even if well prepared (ie: lots of recoveries, physical effort, higher chance of breakage/body damage, potential for long day) and can be more than unpleasant if you are inexperienced and unprepared. Not trying to exclude newbies but if you if have no experience with snowy trails, minimal gear and knowledge of recovery and recovery points, the upcoming 2023 Annual Rising Sun Snow Run might be the better option for you:)

Maybe if it’s yankee hill.
Definitely if it’s not yankee.

I have not done China Wall for a few years. That might be pretty fun with some snow. I think there are a few other options right around there.

@DomOfTheDead how crazy do you expect to get? I finally have real sliders and a belly plate, ready to party as long as it's not too tippy. It's probably time to go break something.
No plans to get too stupid but I do like to party. I am just encouraging responsible recreation that is low impact on others in the group. Trail and weather conditions might vairy, I prefer to expect the worst and hope for the best.

A possibility. I don't have any experience with that trail yet.

The Gulches can get challenging with moderate rain. There are some steep hills that might be a lot of winching on the way out if snow turns to ice.

IMO I prefer to run easy to moderate rated trails in the winter. I like powder bashing and less sketchy stuff. Also helps to know the trail well if visibility gets crappy. In the past, Slaughterhouse was the go to for me in the winter. Gates were hardly ever closed. it offered route options if sections were impassible and like most peeps, have run it 5 zillion times. Not advocating for SHG however.

I like the idea of Black hawk \ Idaho Springs area

I am bringing the 80, I just siped my Coopers and I have chains for the rear.
12K winch, shovels, properly rated straps, hot chai.

Can't wait till I have proper recovery gear and can do something besides 3" of fresh on the ground lol. Still debating on what I'm going to do with the equity I have coming back to me once I finalize selling my Rogue this week (have about 3k coming back to me). Part of me wants to dump it all into the 4runner but I also kind of need some dentistry done and actually build my savings back up >< I also have more preventative maintenance/baselining to do on my 270k mile 4runner.

Pretty sure china wall closes 12-15 or something although it probably could be open year round.

I would probably be down if we weren't planning to head over to SLC.

I am heading down to the area north of divide for a tree today. basically roads to the east of gulches area where we went on New years last year.

Took the day off today. Ran to the top of Yankee Hill. Spent the night at the casino last night. Had a girl friend with me that hadn't wheeled yet - so showed her some snow wheelin.

Made it all the way to he top. Definitely some old snow up there that took a little work to get thru. It wasn't that deep but would tend to stop you in your tracks. Some places took multiple attempts and lockers to get thru. Nothing too bad though. Certainly some icy sections but we have seen worse. It would be quite fun and challenging with some fresh snow.

The mini-Moab area is also an option. I've been out there in the snow before. It's not far and offers varying degrees of optional difficulty.

Where is this at? Illinois gulch? Sounds like pickle gulch is icy already, slaughterhouse is prob closed and Yankee is the fall back option. We are trying to keep fairly close to metro D.
