I see no reasons to believe that we are bottoming.

I think you mean "no" (typo). So where do you think it's headed, all the way back to 8k (2008) region or more like 14k? I think 14,000 is about where the post-2008 new FED liquidity is mostly consumed, if I'm not mistaken. So it's a more realistic valuation. IOW, going below that is genuine loss in companies' value, right?

This may merit a separate thread, but I'm kind of overwhelmed right now with trying to figure out how to financially take advantage of this crisis. I subscribe to The Motley Fool and they gave examples that proved to be exponentially advantageous during the 2008 downturn but I'm struggling to know how to time doubling down. My biggest concern is that we are just now starting to see the beginnings of the financial crisis and any moves to invest right now will just result in greater losses.
Dollar Cost Averaging. That's all there is to it. Everything is at a discount so, like Warren Buffet says, it's like buying on sale.

Yeah my dad is still working at the can plant. He said they have no plans to idle, shut down or change any schedules.
The can plant I was at in Vietnam had a line shutdown because the customer said they can't take anymore cans due to lack of raw materials to make their product to fill the cans.

Thanks for fixing my typo @DaveInDenver .

[/speculationmodeon] From my perspective, I speculate global 2020 GPD will contract about 2%. So with what was expected for 2020 Global GDP growth of ~3%, this is a COVID-19 total effect of ~5% Global GDP loss (on a Global GDP bases of $85T). This would equate to ~$4.25T 2019 US dollars. Not awesome. I expect a recession through 2021.

As for individual companies, I am looking at a number of them that I am interested in. Particularly at Free Cah Flow, debt to equity ratio, and current ratio. Cynically, I'm sure "everything" will be "too big to fail." [/speculationmodeoff]

Whoa. So... much... toilet... paper!
Costco.com

We were out just about which is rare because we usually have about this much in the basement. I guess we haven't bought it in so long we forgot. Good for at least a week now

Suncor Energy sent all non-essential personnel home, allowing people to work from home. Had to turn my family room into my new cubicle.

RayRay! Hitting the P&ID's with Autocad! Muh man!

I imagine it won't be long before we start working from home, but with all the trade shows and stuff cancelled, there hasn't been much work to do...

So I have a question, which branch of guberment is correct?

Is it the EPA?

These cleaners kill coronavirus: Lysol, Clorox, Purell products make EPA's disinfectants list

https://www.usatoday.com/story/mone...s-epa-disinfectants-list-covid-19/4966691002/

Or the FDA?

FDA warns Purell its products can't treat or prevent viruses

https://thehill.com/changing-americ...-tells-purell-that-its-products-cant-treat-or

I'm certainly not a microbiologist, so take it FWIW. The answer is well sort of, depending, sure.

The crazy story of Purell and the coronavirus

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/the-crazy-story-of-purell-and-the-coronavirus-130056513.html

"So does Purell do anything to prevent COVID-19? The active ingredient of Purell is really just 70% ethanol or ethyl alcohol. Experts generally agree that a solution containing in excess of 60% alcohol can be effective in some instances, like for wiping down a tray table on an airplane, and maybe as a hand sanitizer.

Actually, that distinction—surfaces versus hands—falls under the auspices of the EPA, in terms of the former, and the FDA for the latter, as the GOJO Q and A reflects. Check this out: “...under the EPA’s Emerging Pathogen guidance, our PURELL® Surface Spray can be used to kill COVID-19 on hard, non-porous surfaces when used in accordance with the directions and a 1-minute contact time.” But it goes on to say, “The FDA, which regulates hand sanitizer, and the EPA, which regulates surface disinfectants, have different rules. The EPA permits manufacturers to answer questions about efficacy against viruses.”

Tanya Crum, an assistant professor of biology at Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois says that soap and water is always best, but that “if you’re somewhere where soap and water is not available, having hand sanitizer is great. I wouldn’t use it first, I would use it just in case or second.” Crum also says that “There’s varying effectiveness in terms of hand sanitizer killing viruses,” but that’s because COVID-19 is a virus with a capsid protein or what’s called a coat, it may be easier to kill with a hand sanitizer. Potentially good news there for Purell."
