also for father’s day the family got me a 14 smithed with lid.
they opted for the dual handle which is preferable for me at this size as it weighs in at 11 lbs

i hadn’t acquired anything from smithed yet, i have some from field (my favorite to date and closest to griswold of all the new), star gazer, now new wagner ware, but this is the first Smithey

i am very impressed by the casting and machining, and aesthetically very nice , up there with stargazer..

this 14 is big enough to cook for the big family sunday meals without busting out 3 or 4 different things

I like it

Does anyone on here know of someone local who could weld a cracked #8 pan that is around 100 years old? I have been holding onto it hoping to find someone but I have been unsuccessful thus far.

Damn dude. Serious bling! Love it. The big pans open up the playbook quite a bit.

I missed that Wagner is back as a brand. I guess I need to look that one up and see what/how they are making them.
Kinda like old bourbon brands I guess…

yea it really does..even though the kids aren’t at home anymore they all come on Sundays for dinner so it is nice to have more capacity

I still had to use three pans tonight cause we had 16 today but normally I think the 14 will handle the normal crowd

I have repaired a few cast iron pot and pans. Most are holding up great but know of at least one that cracked out again within the same area. Welding to cast isn't that difficult, just proper preheat and post cool down while using a high nickel content filler. But the fact that repaired areas heat/cool differently as the material density is much different than the original, the chance for them to crack/fail later is much greater. Especially since these go through so many repeated heat and cooling cycles.

Cooking jewelry. Worth every penny, no doubt, and may you have many fine meals from it!

Seeing your new griddle @simps80 reminded me that I've never been able to identify mine.

I know it's older than 1994, when I got it.

The nibbles on the underside of the skirt are so that it fits on top of a Coleman 426C perfectly (so mid 1960s production). Figuring that out was serendipity. I bought my 3-burner at a Mountain Miser garage sale from a river outfitter and this thing just sat on it like it was made to do it.

The handles look like old (perhaps pre-1960) Lodge or maybe Erie or Wagner but it's not marked and the sides are not vertical but flare slightly. Plus it's got the webbing on the bottom rather than being a clean negative space. It's a 21" x 10" (cooking surface is 20.75" x 9.5"), which is pretty close to a #7 Lodge or #8 Wagner.

No idea but I'm supposing mid century store brand made under contract as was common then. I'd love to know just out of curiosity.

The photo make obvious in the bottom where our kitchen stove's two burners align. That's not as distinct when you look at it.

that looks real close to a wagner 1149 both in terms of the casting and the dimension

no markings at all on it of any sort?

cool piece

You're spot on, a Wagner 1149 does look very similar.

Just found this on eBay:

wagner1149_1.jpg

wagner1149_2.jpeg

wagner1149_3.jpeg

Mine, which is about 2" longer. It's like a 110% scaled up copy. I thought they came in 17" and 21" though.

There's no clear markings but I have also never stripped it to look closer.

Wagner did not mark early pieces, say the 1890s ones. I doubt very much that's the case here.

It'd be my luck that it's a first year prototype Wagner that would have been worth $$$$ if wasn't nibbled to fit a Coleman stove by someone in 1954 who found it in a thrift store and didn't know better.

If I were to make a guess based on what Mike's mentioned helping with form it's probably a 1959+ Wagner from after the Griswold buyout. But the handles on those seem to be solid and not open like this. Such as this one identified as a "1950s Wagner" is kind of close.

Well maybe I should give up on it then. The crack extends through the side and well into the bottom.
