Actually, it appears there are some resistance specs too... Do not recall if I have checked those, but I will now.

Checked the resistance on the distributor today, all checks out.

Cold 226, 227, 228
Hot 265, 268, 269

Also checked the vacuum at idle it was ~44 cmHg or ~17inHg

my guess was going to be TPS. But you covered that.

have you verified the timing is doing what you think it is with a light?

I have not, next on my list when I get some time.

I presume you have carefully inspected the inside of the distributor cap for carbon trails and/or cracks? Same with the rotor.

Ok, I'm just curious :)

Little difficult to see, but the reading in TOYOBD1 and what is displayed on the timing light looks to match.

Has a newish cap and rotor (less than 20k miles). I will have to pop it off and look. Garage is jammed full due to moving and the temps just took a nose dive outside.

What do the o2 readings do when it is showing the issue? also when it'
s down on power it is running smoothly just down on power or is it running rough?

No, the extent of my driving has been to the dog park and back today.

I should add, that I opened the VAF up (again) and monkied with that a little. The PO had loosened it way up for some unknown reason. They did put a witness mark (I am guessing anyway) so I set it back to what would appear to be default. I did notice that during low RPM it appears the VAF is reporting a higher voltage (which means less air flow) but at cruising speeds it looks to be about the same.

Really need the weather to warm up before I can tell either way though.

All of the readings look to be on-par or the same as to when it is down on power. O2, TPS, VAF, IAC, etc. And it is just down on power, no rough idle, just no power.

Yesterday when I was messing with the VAF clock spring (as I am calling it) I loosened up 1 notch (not a lot) and at speed (60+ in 3rd) it felt WAY down on power. Guessing it was thinking it was not getting enough air? But whatever it was, it ran out of juice at the top end.

So, the wife and I ventured out to Costco earlier and I noticed that the VAF voltage is ~.1 lower at idle than it was yesterday. And after it warmed up, and then sat in the parking lot while we shopped (guessing it had a chance to heat everything up under the hood in that time) it was feeling down on power on the drive home.

Anyone have a spare VAF they are looking to part with or willing to let me borrow to test with?

Initially I was going to ask about the cap/rotor/plugs if they are oem or not...I had a '94 camry that did not like any bosch products(not knowing better at the time) it did a lot of weird things and ultimately ran like crud until they were swapped for denso parts...But of course you said you hae 20k on those parts and my post is a rambling waste. haha

Good luck. Id definitely look towards the vaf. since its been messed with before, theres a reason for that.

If the VAF has been messed with definitely worth trying to dig into it deeper.

What's the procedure for checking it out? Is the voltage sweep 0-5v with 0v being fully open?

If somebody had one to let you borrow that'd be the easiest way to try and troubleshoot it...
