Multiprocess welding machines. What to buy?

Not if you have the budget for a Miller or Lincoln. Hobart would be my bottom choice.
My 2 cents, I haven't liked the new inverter style machines as much as the old school welders. The digital adjusments piss me off too. I have a Miller 215 and like it. It does what I ask. Tried a Lincoln 230 ProMig and sold it. I miss the old 1990's era Miller 255 I used to use at work with actual dials. Welded like butter and so predictable. The Lincoln 230 I had welded like hot garbage. Wanted to be heavy duty but wasn't and couldnt weld anything thin like advertised. Middle ground to nowhere. I compromised heavy duty for versatility with the Miller 215 and haven't gotten to love it. It's a multi process but I'll probably never use it for anything but MIG. I've got a Thunderbolt that'll do better stick welding anyhow. I feel like dedicated machines are better than multiprocess. No setup time to switch over. Just get three machines.
One of my first welders was a Hobart for my home shop. The 210. I loved it. Miller makes Hobart so the action is very similar. It's just cheaper internals and way cheaper price point.
My buddy has ESAB and seems to like it, but his welds are crap anyway. He's getting a grinder for christmas.

I’m starting to lean towards the Syncrowave 212, let my Millermatic 211 be the MIG machine and just deal with the extra footprint in my garage. Multiple machine cart? This leaves room for a plasma cutter.
Seems like the extra features on the TIG side over the Multimatic 220 would be worth it in the long run. But I’ve never TIG welded so someone tell me if my thinking is flawed. I don’t see a new multi process machine out performing my old 211 for MIG.

I’ll say he’s a lucky kid. I only dreamed about these kinds of machines when I was his age.
He definitely is. Hope he knows it. I look at what we spent on ski team for him and this seems like a responsible decision as he wants to make it a career choice.
Traded emails with Bridger’s welding teacher today. He agrees that the Syncrowave 212 would be the way to go. So now I just need to figure out how far into the first quarter it will take for cash flow to return and I can go pick one up.
On a side note he has not been super happy with his fleet of Multimatic 220’s in his classroom environment. The duty cycle has a hard time keeping up with 7 periods a day. But that is far more action than my machines will regularly see.

Syncrowave 212 arrived today. Un boxed it. Boy on his way home from school now. My argon tank should be back from hydro testing on Thursday. Then we should be fully functional. I skipped the aluminum spool gun for now. If we are going to weld aluminum we’ll just use the TIG

Schools out for the weekend. He couldn’t wait to fire it up.
I meant to get him a small table today but ran out of time.
Table acquired along with a small stick oven. The boy’s workshop is complete. He has a fellow welding buddy coming over this afternoon to practice their skills. I’ve been cutting coupons on the band saw for hours.
