Very tentatively putting a place in line. Also, the desert in summer sounds.. Hot.

SLC or bust.

So you want dates? Is that what you are saying?
In the past we have taken basically three routes. northern, central, southern. Its easy to stay mostly high elevation. Cross the desert in a night-op? Hmm, I have never done that in the States. With a week of travel, many possible all-excellent combinations!

So I think what you're saying is you're going to take one route out and one route back... 😍

And if I win the lottery in time, I'll take the third route back home to Cali 😉

I wish I had taken more pictures of this 2014 Cruiserfest Run that Daniel had created. (maybe others could post theirs up!) We went through so many different terrains and had real adventures (Launching from RedRocks, over heated trucks, sleeping in the desert, rescuing an injured MBer, winching and welding the ripped off rear spring hanger on an fj60 on a mountain shelf trail with 2 batteries, jumper cables, scrap metal and a sledgehammer, buffet camp dinners, sand dunes, mud, etc....)
It all culminated with the Crusierfest event and a dinner and tour of the original LC museum.....one of the best trips ever!

Make this happen and you'll have memories for life! Well done Daniel!

Some more.......one other fun fact about the adventure is I loaded and carried about 1000lbs of ATC gear, tents, tables, food, beer, etc to setup and sell ATC gear at the CF event. Heck, the ATC gear experience more of an adventure then some of the attendees getting there!

Goodstuff!

I'm catching up on this thread now. The LCHM is amazing! I'll totally support this plan!

I'm spoiled having lived near it since 2021. So y'all come by my place in Syracuse UT. It's 30miles north of the museum and plenty of room for trucks and bodies. Bathrooms, kitchen, traeger, garage, whatever.

But like @MonPetiteShoe said, I want dates! Haha!

Depending on how my career jumping goes, I might be moving but difficult to predict right now. Also if anyone knows any good engineering openings, please let me know. I'm hunting for the next adventure in that respect.

I’m the only cruiser person out there that thinks the museum is “meh” at best. Worth a visit if you happen to be in the area with time to kill, but not worth much effort, or a specific trip. My advice to anyone going that hasn’t been before, is to focus on the fun journey as primary, and the destination as a secondary part of the trip.

I can honestly say Abe, you’re the only person I’ve heard say that. But to each their own. I personally think it’s absolutely incredible. I’ve made the trip a couple times just to check out new additions.

Also chucking my name in the mix in case I’m able to make the dates y’all end up with.

Not entirely.

I LOVE the museum, especially when I have gotten the chance to nerd out around it with CDan.

But the restomods? Not remotely interesting in a museum. I really appreciate the different model years being on display right next to one another so I can look at the changes up close, but that's the kind of thing I typically need to do more than just standing a couple feet in front of a truck. I wish there were exhibits of the evolution of cruisers, from 3 speeds and single piece T-cases to 5 speeds, split cases, and modern AWD T-cases. That's the kind of thing I find fascinating, and I figure I can't be the only one, right?

And if you're in the area fyi, Cruisers and Coffee is a thing on the fourth Saturday of every month.

I have a season pass to the museum cuz of it 😁 just fun to talk with dudes & gals about their adventures, learn new stuff, while having coffee and then even checking out all the Cruisers inside the museum. Never gets old to me no matter how old the Cruiser, lol

Thanks for that offer Allen! That sounds amazing
Anytime my friend! And June(ish) sounds great to me. Hopefully I'll be recovered from a marathon in May and be able to walk around normal 😆

That would be so amazing! As always, you rock!

Let's get this thing planned! I would love to make it a week long trip. But anyone who could only make it for a couple of days could turn and burn etc.

How do we start looking at dates? Would like it to be during the summer so my boys can go, so can't go during the school year...

Dates on my end just depend on personal availability BUT if I'm not able to be there (I do have some crazy travel this Spring/Summer/Fall), I can network with Dan or Jules to offer a group evening where possible. CruiserDan wakes up at 4am and has 3 cups of coffee by 4:30am so he may not want to do a super late night there :D (wish he were on Rising Sun to see my ribbing :D ).

Perhaps toss out a couple dates and I'll confirm. From there lock in with Rising Sun crews.

It's certainly not for everyone, we don't advertise it as such. I will say maaaaaannny rabid Cruiserheads from around the world have made trips to Utah exclusively to see the LCHM, a growing trend as it's international awareness increases. Some have made multiple trips or added layovers in SLC to accommodate their visit. I can't say I've ever seen their feedback as "meh at best" but I'm sure it's happened. If there is something we can do to make it more of a memorable destination for you and others, please do reach out, I'm always happy to take recommendation to our BOD.

Dan

I'd be curious which restomods you don't like in the museum. At current there are only ~5 I can think of?

Frakenstein FJ45 - Ironically a 'fan favorite' for many visitors
Icon FJ44 - It's strategically parked near the door so it can come and go :D
Proffits built Cummins 79 Series
76/80 Hybrid - A good conversation point about how to have a 'legal' late model 7x Series in the US
The Lizard King which is for sale, help us solve that problem :D

The other 95% (literally) are either stock survivors, stock or near stock restorations or builds that are very colloquially/culturally significant to their markets or have done something amazing (E7 fleet, fire trucks, military, ambulance). For example one could call our HJ75 a resto-mod? but it's also a very very typical build out for an Australian outback Land Cruiser so that patina and style absolutely makes sense to me in a museum format.

Have something we are missing on display? Please consider donating it. We are a non-profit 501c3 working to preserve the heritage of the Land Cruiser and continue to be an education center for new and old enthusiasts alike.

We do have many engines on stands to display, F, 2F, 3FE, 1FZ, 2UZ, 3UR and 1VD. Transmissions and t-cases would be cool too but real estate for space intensive displays is hard. Anyone want to have a museum addition with their name on it?
