yup, that was stupid on many levels. Not even sure where to start. The comments on YouTube were even dumber. I’ve recovered a Renegade on much lesser trail. But hell Jeep says it can “Go Anywhere, Do Anything” so I’d submit that damage as a warranty claim.

You know, that guy in the red box was the definition of "Send it!" Guessing there is no low range on those or he has no idea. At the end of the video there was a link to their trail repair. They fixed it and drove it off with a pretty clever repair. They made a pretty slick little sleeve for the tie rod that's worth checking out.

The other vehicles, the Cherokees I think. We have a couple of those at work. They're not half bad. No Cruiser or 4Runner of course but for cute utes, I dunno, it seems more legit than a RAV4 or Highlander. One of the ones we have is called a Trailhawk and has an honest-to-God rear diff locker and low range.

I, for one, am very happy these "soft roaders" are becoming so popular. Fake Jeeps, lifted Subarus, off-road Kias etc I see it only as a good thing. The next generation can do winch recoveries on gravel roads while we can have the real trails all to ourselves :giggle:

Is not Old Tin Cup is a real trail? Anyway, I've been humbled bouncing around Missouri Gulch, feeling all smug in my "real" 4WD, only to find a lost hippie in a VW Beetle asking "Is it this the right way to Montezuma?" Who am I to judge? I was the one watching the video at work of them getting after it. Good for them actually using their junk. Plenty of actual mallcrawler "#Ovrlndr" trucks running around, too good to get mud on them or risk pinstriping, nevermind breaking something.

I saw a Vespa abandoned on Ophir Pass a few years ago. It was almost at the peak and I wish I could have seen it get up that far.

Saw a good one heading up Mosquito Pass from the east side near the North London Mine where the trail starts getting steep and really rocky. Something was heading down towards us and really heaving around so we pulled off to the right side to let it pass. Suzie, our nephew and I stared in dumbfounded amazement as it became clear the vehicle was a fairly new Buick Park Avenue with Iowa plates and a guy in his 70s, maybe 80s, by himself. He bounced by never looking over at us. We made sure he got down to a safer part of the trail before we headed on up. Left us with lots of unanswered questions. 😎 At least the guy in the Ford Crown Vic on Hell’s Revenge knew what he was doing.

On an RS trip there was a fairly new Mazda 2 on 4 flat tires (with 4 badly dinged rims) at the summit of Tincup pass. Pretty sure it was stolen and driven up from the Tincup side. I also saw a 2WD 70s-era Chevy pickup going up Mosquito Pass from Alma. He was having a lot of traction issues, but plugged along.

@Inukshuk what was the vehicle we saw abandoned on Tin Cup a while back? I feel like it was a car of some sort.

These are the people who don't embody mall crawler. I like it. I must admit that I am impressed with how capable most Jeeps are straight out of the box these days. I appreciate that they just went for it.

Wheeling for me has been a real learning process. I know many on this forum have had learning opportunities that cost more than they would have preferred. The time that I broke a new $400 Toyota CV with 1500 miles on it was one of mine. If only I had already gone to Jacksons Newb day run! No full articulation, full steering lock and locked front diff while trying to bump over a 18" vertical shelf... Whoops. Check and learned.

Video of the repair is below. pretty smart fix:
