Laws only count once you’re caught and charged. Otherwise your innocent until proven guilty ;)
Difference of perspective. I’m guilty of breaking all sorts of laws (not since a carefree youth) in the past. I was just never caught, charged & convicted. But I still broke the laws. Just like speeding. People speed, knowing they are breaking the law because they are okay with the risks. It doesn’t mean they are innocent if the crime. I totally get your viewpoint. I just look at it as, if I know I’m guilty, am I willing to take the risk involved? Lots of people with deep pockets wouldn’t worry about it at all. But for me, it would leave me sleepless all the time.

Whatever diesel engine @DanS has in his 60 series, he gets like 150 miles/gallon. He once sent me a photo of his fuel gauge, barely below F, while I was hunting for a gas station.
if a 12ht gets 150mpg a 3b gets like 250mpg. A week off road south of moab and I never filled up til i hit monticello.

To be clear, I was wondering if there was a legal way to import a 250 with a diesel engine that wouldn't cost a ridiculous amount of $$$. I wasn't looking for a way to get around Uncle Sam.

You can, but you need lots of money and time.

You're welcome, I'll be here all night.

You know that 60 is looking for a home ... no import required ...

ETA: Nevermind I can't keep all our damn our trucks straight. That 60 is not currently for sale.

Please don't ever take anything that I say as either intelegente or seriously. My most favorite thing in life is sarcasm. I'm playing devils advocate and just throwing some hypotheticals out there just to participate in Matt's conversation. Personally I wouldn't waste my time on a diesel conversation if you live in Colorado’s Air Care emissions testing areas. Just trying to do a basic gasoline engine swap is a pain as it is.

The nostalgia of owning a right hand diesel 250 would be cool but that's about it. I still would prefer to have a 79 series with the 4.5L V8 diesel which we can start importing in 2032 if my calculations are correct or if emission laws get tougher.

Ok....ok......hear me out......I gotta a plan.

1) Fly to country and buy said vehicle
2) Rent a storage unit
3) Buy tools
4) Get a shit ton of shipping boxes
5) Schedule every vacation and holiday to fly back and Disassemble car and ship parts back home
6) Assemble car and be the envy of all the RS membership!

I suspect you'd get a couple crazy club members to fly down and eat fish tacos and drink Coronas to help on this!?!

i suspect that the model designation is not what you believe it to be. just as the 40 series was a model, it was also an fj40, bj40, fj43, etc. i suspect the real 'hidden' model designation would differentiate the diesel from petrol and that's where the gov't would smite you

12ht if I recall correctly! But I also think he’s got a 40 gallon tank in it too.

Yep. 12HT. And stock tank.

The someday-to-be-completed 1HZ/60 has the stock tank, and an additional 38 gallon tank.

There are lots of cruisers I'd own with a diesel... but a 250 isn't one of them. It's so refined and responsive with the hybrid system integrated throughout the design and it all works together so well. A diesel 250 just doesn't seem like a step forward vs a diesel 60 or something where you can shame a 2F.

Is the 250 diesel a refined hybrid or more of a poverty pack spec? I really don't know jack about it.

If were talking a twin turbo v8 diesel then -Hell Yeah!

I believe it gets the 1GD-FTV. I’m sure my hybrid is more powerful but I’d take the MPG/range of the diesel over it. Not sure I’d save any money with the increased cost of fuel and def fluid. They both get the same 8-speed auto transmission.

I don't think the 1GD uses DEF in any market. DPF is fitted in some, but not all markets.

This is how I feel when I go to the desert with Barry and Wes!!! I have 10 gallons of petrol on top of my 80 and all gets used. They don’t even make it through their single diesel tank! They literally sip fuel while at idle.

I couldn't find the other 250 thread... so pasting this here

melting mirrors on the GX, and a good review on the "Altitude" edition... where water in the air filter killed it.
