Beautiful. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the comments! Glad you enjoyed them.
Ushuaia stands as one of the neatest places I've ever visited. Very, very cool.
No Tren del Fin del Mundo though?
Dan
Ushuaia was pretty cool. Its a crazy place at the end of the world. We didn't have much time there, as we were late in the trip and the weather was starting to turn. We did have a crazy mix of rain/wind and on our last day, beautiful sunshine and no wind at all. And nope, no Tren....wish I had the time to do that and some more hikes in the National Park. 6 months seemed really long at the start of the trip and the time just flew by.
Again, wow!
Are you running a dash cam?
Did you pull out the bus?
What are those jagged peaks?
What happened to the oil filter?
How is the tent performing?
Thanks! To answer your questions:
-Yep, I am running a Mobius dash cam. I really wanted it in case something happened while driving such as an accident, etc. I speak survival spanish which doesn't extend to describing those type of events

The camera worked perfectly the whole trip and is super small. Quite happy with it for the price.
-HAHA no I did not pull out the bus. I think soft shoulder and a second of inattention sucked it off the road. I drove back by later and they had some heavy road machinery/grater there to pull it out. I'm not sure that even with a 2:1 I'd manage to even budge the thing. It was way off the side
-There are a few sets of peaks in there. Fitz Roy range, Cerro Torre and surrounding peaks. Both of those are near Chalten, Argentina. And were the imputus for the Patagonia Clothing company logo. The others are in Torres del Paine National Park, Chile. Los Cuernos and Los Torres. I'll try to post up some more photos with names.
-As for the filter, apparently some bonehead put it on too tight

rolleyes

when he/I changed the oil earlier in the trip. Try as I might I could NOT get that thing off. I had to put the hose clamps on there just to get some purchase/leverage with my hand.
-Overall the tent is working well. In the heavy rain (IE Hornopiren area where they get 7meters a year) and it rains all night I get a bit of seep through. Also the awning needs some adjustment. In the heavy wind it is plenty strong but the fabric is too loose and way too noisy. I've got a few mods planned for it to hopefully address those issues. I did have the zipper on teh door start to fail at the very end of the trip. I thought being a YKK it would last forever but apparently not. Otherwise quite happy as I spent probably 120 nights in it over the course of the trip.
So many great pictures in that stash Corey. The emperor penguins are beauties. I know you're anxious to get all the pics out but like Daniel I'd be interested in a bit of narrative. Keep 'em coming!
Thanks! Writing is not my strong suite but I can try to do some more descriptions once I arrive home. I am in the airport now so reliable internet will be nice for working on pictures. I do have a bit more description on the blog if you wanna take a peek at that.
http://hobogoesrogue.wordpress.com. I try to post more Cruiser pics here though
I'll assist (or try to)....
Maestri's douchebaggery. Otherwise known as Cerro Torre.
Fitzroy? AKA El Chalten. It's an odd angle for me though.
Same question. Not a technique I am familiar with.
Dan
Yep first one is Cerro Torre, but the second one is back in Chile at Torres del Paine....The Cuernos(horns) are the white body, black tip on the left and Torres(towers) del Paine are on the right.
And yea, not a usual technique but I didn't have either an oil filter wrench nor a strap wrench with me so had to figure out how to increase the grip

Luckily I brought a bunch of hose clamps with me. Seemed to work well

Way better than a screwdriver through the filter. I was prepared just to leave the filter on and change the oil but this worked!
