Keep a paper clip in the truck and stick it between pins E1 and TE1 i think and count the flashes.

Glad to hear, this is my first vehicle with a distributor rather than coil packs. Can an “analog” system like this throw a code or did I get something else wet?

I let the truck idle in my driveway after work and the CEL came back. I’m getting codes 26 and 41 (air fuel ratio rich and throttle body position sensor). They’ve come and gone since car wash yesterday and the truck runs differently when they’re on, which seems to be at idle. Any ideas?

Drove a bit more this afternoon. Truck ran like crap when first idling then completely normal when driving, even at red lights.

I'd pull some connectors, maybe start with the one on the throttle position sensor. Connectors and wires are another place where it's pretty easy to force water in.

Also I’m leaning towards a low idle situation as I’m realizing the rough idle occurs when it drops below 600 rpm. Unplugged/replugged TPS and IAC this morning before starting truck. Started normally idled high for a minute like usual then slowly dropped to around 400 rpm and ran rough. Did then same as I came to my first red light. The rest of the way to work it ran fine and even idled smooth around 650 for a few minutes when I got to work. I’d say this is improvement from last 2 days could this possibly solve itself?

Like the wiring pigtail connections I’m assuming?
Yup, I mean just pull the connector off the TPS (for example) and make sure there's no water trapped. The gotcha here is if you do force water past a seal like this it can't get back out under normal pressure. So it's just stuck there.

I went through and hit them with crc wire drier along with the inside of the distributor cap. Not sure if that stuff works or if just snake oil but didn’t seem to make the problem worse. 🤷‍♂️

As long as you are opening up connectors to check for water might as well give them all a squirt of dielectric grease. Helps to keep water out as the seals get older.

Odd enough the issue seems to be getting better. Starts normally and runs fine until it idles down to around 600, where it gets rough but not nearly as bad. Every once in awhile it will drop that low and get a mild inconsistency when not in gear. I can't imagine the ignition system/electronics are still very wet. I read somewhere in my frantic research about the idle control thing (iac I think) having the ability to be reset and relearn how to idle. Of course I now can't find where I read this. Does anyone know anything on that?

Ironman 2” lift is in. The springs are used so I’m not really sure if it’s giving it a full 2” above stock but it’s a hell of a lot better than before. Because of this it seems to drive fine, probably not affecting the caster as much as a taller new set would but we’ll see.

How does this alignment look for these trucks? In my experience with older Toyotas on larger tires it’s never perfect. They gave me a hard time about it as the tie rod ends seem to be seized in the center link. Just debating how urgently I should be replacing all that.

I had the same experience, I replaced it all and it was fine after. These things get crudy after so long

Am I reading that right that it’s toed out? You don’t want that. Caster seems like it might make it drive squirrelly too, so keep an eye on that and you might consider correction bushings or something before too long.

I figured the toe wasn’t ideal but not sure how bad .07 degrees is, considering the rear and other non adjustable parts are farther off. Does lifting these trucks affect alignment aside from caster? If not I guess I’ve been driving it like this since I purchased the truck.
