Perry, can you post up directions to the proposed camp site?

Ken,

Here are the coordinates to the two camps I have in mind for this years run. Just depends on what one is taken by the time we get there. The first set of coordinates is for the camp we've used for the older Ghost Town Run's. The last set, is the camp we used last year. Both are great spots along Middle Quartz Creek.

38 36'56.60" N 106 26'23.63 W

38° 36' 9" N 106° 28' 2" W

Basically just across the creek from the intersection of fsr 767 and fsr 769. East side.

The Middle Quartz Creek Trail is just outside of Pitkin, Co. That road is easily traveled and shouldn't be and issue for those with campers. To get to Pitkin, you can come in through Highway 50 to Parlin, then 76 to Ohio and finaly Pitkin. Another route would be over Cumberland Pass from TinCup. To get to TinCup from Buena Vista, take Cottonwood Pass (rd 306/209) to Taylor Park Reservoir. Then roads 742/745 to Abbyville and TinCup.

I have not come in through Parlin, maybe others can comment on that route. But going over Cumberland and Cottonwood is a easy scenic drive. It has been a while since i've done Cottonwood.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Perry

Looks like 216 miles from my house to the camp site at just over 4 hours one way

Hey Perry,

We're still in, but tentative until we can do some research on the route you have planned. We want to go on the trip, but are not extremely hard core experience wise, so will back out Id it is a rough or scary trip. Don't want to be a giant anchor on the group, while being scared all weekend, don't ya know...

Thanks

Abe,

Sorry for the late response, been in Seattle for the last few days for Mom's funeral. At least I got to enjoy this view for a day:cool:.

I assume your going to be bringing the troopy? Most of the route will be mild. There's some minor stuff near the top of TinCup, and from all I can read up on, Napoleon Pass is just tight (forest).

The planned route I have for this year is: From St. Elmo, take TinCup to Mirror Lake and TinCup, then continue on to camp via Napoleon Pass. Camp will be along the Middle Quartz Creek Road.

Sunday we will head to the Alpine Tunnel West Portal, the back to St. Elmo via Hancock Pass.

Perry, I am out :(

Darn. Sorry you can't make it Mike. Thanks for the heads up.

Perry, started the new job today. As I feared they are working Saturdays through July. I appreciate your holding my spot, but I can't make it

Been on Tincup and Hancock many times, rocky but not too bad and nothing scary. Never been on Napolean. Driving a 4Runner with only a 2" lift. Abe, hope to see you all there.

Perry, on Sunday, where do you plan on ending up at the end of the day. That will decide if I want to take my car tent or the camper. Thanks,

Brian,

We will be ending in St. Elmo on Sunday. Same place as the start point on Saturday morning. I'll be posting more details this coming weekend.

I have updated first post to this thread with the planned route etc. Also included the two coordinates for our camp. I will be heading out Wed to save camp. Cell coverage is spotty out there, but will monitor 146.460. Looking forward to a fun weekend!! :thumb::cheers:

Can't believe I'm saying this, but I won't be able to join either. Sorry for the last minute notice, Perry. Guess it's time to start planning for 2017 :(
