@DaveInDenver The work Alan Lomax did can never be overstated. The concept of “American music” essentially owes all praise to Lomax.

Here’s my favorite Sam Chatmon video:

Hard to say.

Sure, yes of course Alan (and to give full credit his father, John, as well) Lomax.

But Ralph Peer and his remote recordings. For my money he's the guy.

Hat tip to Don Law, Art Satherley and especially Ernie Oertle. Everyone knows why them.

Not to forget Richard Jones and Clarence Williams at OKeh.

And George Hay and his WSM Barn Dance.

It's impossible to read, listen, watch or digest it all.

"Pedestrian at Best"
Courtney Barnett
Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit (2015)

I love you, I hate you, I'm on the fence, it all depends
Whether I'm up or down, I'm on the mend, transcending all reality
I like you, despise you, admire you
What are we gonna do when everything all falls through?
I must confess, I've made a mess of what should be a small success
But I digress, at least I've tried my very best, I guess
This, that, the other, why even bother?
It won't be with me on my deathbed, but I'll still be in your head

@DaveInDenver those first two albums she put out are pretty dang good. I’ve said it before but there’s tons of cool stuff coming out of Australia the last decade or so.

Going to see the Maria Schneider Orchestra in about an hour at the Newman Center at DU. Fine, very fine, Friday Night Music!
