Loudon Wainwright III, well played.

For some reason the song progression made Malvina Reynolds popped into my head.

Going to see these guys tonight at the Ogden. Song starts at about 1:20 -- I recommend skipping the first 80 seconds of art school crap. The song is epic.

"Muscle'n Flo"
Friend or Foe (2007)
Menomena

Going through records, starting to get them ready to move and maybe pare down a few to sell/give away (e.g. the meh stuff) and I come across one that hasn't been played in a while. Hey, this ain't half bad.

And then you notice there's a download code. Interesting, I don't remember it being in my iTunes library, so I wonder... Heck yeah, still works!

Then this song came up in rotation on Open Air this morning on the drive in and that surely must be a sign.

This song keeps coming up on my Radiohead Pandora station. I thought I had heard most PF songs, at least the good ones, but Fearless was/is new to me.

I dig it.

one of the best...

Yeah, it's one of my favorite PF songs. It's quite a bit different than the rest of Meddle.

Been a DMB fan since high school, so this article was interesting to me, even though I don't know half of what he's saying. So I thought I would save it and mull over it a bit for a while:
https://www.stereogum.com/2000325/best-dave-matthews-songs/franchises/list/

Thanks for sharing this, Matt - good reading. I'm one of those who kind of dismissed Dave Matthews as safe bland music that appealed to the masses. Over the years, I've come to appreciate their musicianship, even if I'm not a dedicated fan.

My brother-in-law is a huge DMB fan. He was completely appalled when he discovered I had only a single song on my phone, and it wasn't even from a proper DMB album -- it was from a DM solo album. ("Save Me" from Some Devil).

The band that might have fallen into the same category from when I was a teenage was Journey. Or Styx. I was a teenager, and I liked those bands a lot. Now, less so. But I do admit to still listening once in a while.

Dave Matthews' neohippie jam band doesn't make sense to me, I guess I may be just enough too old for it to have clicked. Seems like the "safe music" continuum must have a torch bearer. Phish for their generation. Get a bunch of upper middle class yuppies out for an evening and it seems like Mumford & Sons, Coldplay or Dave Matthews is the jam.

Funny you mention Styx and Journey, Matt. Dawes have a similar sound but their songs have a little more depth. Kirsten and I saw Dawes at The Mishawaka last summer with maybe 150 other people there. That was a really awesome show and we didn't expect it. We saw them because Lucero was sold out when I went to buy tickets. Bought the Dawes record on the spot, though.
