FJ60 Weight

I just got done corner weighing the 60 and figured some of you folks might be interested in what the numbers were...

So... the truck was weighed with the following on board:

- 40 gallons of fuel
- Mead (115lbs)
- Driver in driver's seat (130lbs ( no not me))
- tools (40 lbs)
- Fridge full of beer in the back
- Chili (13lbs)
- Recovery gear in my Wagon Gear tail gate (tree strap, pulley, snatch strap, 4 shackles, tire repair kit, air hose, and a few other random doodads)

Truck setup is as follows:

- Vortec 5.3 conversion
- H55f
- Dual group 31 batteries
- York on board air compressor
- ARB lockers with associated crapola
- XD9000i Winch with synthetic cable
- Custom front winch bumper boxed to be an air tank, three shackles
- 2 x 3 1/4" wall sliders welded to frame
- Custom rear bumper with swingout tire mount and hi lift and two shackles
- inverter with 1 ga wiring
- sub with big amp
- stock interior
- yakima roof rack with bike rails and kayak mounts
- HAM and CB radios
- beefy skid plate for tranny/t case
- stock axle housings
- 35's with steel wheels


So, this is how it sits basically for around town and no camping... it's how I drive it every day.

Weights are as follows:

RR - 1913lbs
LR - 1820lbs
RF - 1200lbs
LF - 1541lbs

Total Rear = 3733lbs
Total Front = 2741lbs

Total = 6474lbs

Cross is 3020lbs or 46.6% which is pretty crummy. It's a wheeling truck though, not a race car.. .plus no ride height adjustment on this rig.

The total surprised me.

Any idea how much less that Vortec weighs over the old 2F? You might be pushing 7k with the old motor....

The total does not surprise me much.

I have been running mine over the truck scale this year just to see as well. My 80 in DD mode was exactly 6000 lbs early this year with me in it. Other than that just the regular stuff in back. On my way out of town to CM10 I was over 6600 with me, Porter and light camping gear. Gross vehicle weight for an 80 on stock suspension is 6400 something. I guess that's why I spent most of CM on my bumpstops.

I'm still looking to add a lift, rear bumper, 35's, drawers, then fill drawers with crap, 2nd battery, maybe a roof rack, etc.... So I'm pretty much planning on 7000+ with passengers.

I don't remember if you were around when Paul from Equipt and I were having this conversation during the overnighter. He said the 100 was over 11000lbs if you included the trailer

I guess the old 2F was around 750lbs... at least that's what looking around on mud brought up.

The new motor is about 520lbs...

So that's a pretty big difference but not quite enough to get it to 7k. If I hit 7k I'd reeealy feel like a fat a$$. I actually never really thought about the weight savings being good or bad, but I guess it helps.

I honestly thought that it'd be reasonably light untill I weighed it and posted this thread... then I began to realize how much crap is on the thing. I mean it looks pretty empty inside but it's still full of crap. I have no idea how heavy it is when loaded for stuff like our moab desert runs.

Why the huge difference between sides up front? I could see a little difference but 341lbs different seems huge (no pun intended )

Anyone know of a truck scale on the south side of Denver? I'd love to find out how much my 80 weighs.

I've been meaning to (for 3+ years now) to hit up one of the landscape places on Sante Fe to see what they have/can do. Not sure how accurate there stuff is though...I'd like to get both the LX and the 40 weighed just so I know...

The weight difference is probably the springs being a little bit different from one another. The left one is probably a bit talle than the right, and vise versa on the rear. It dosen't take that big of a change in ride height to get that kind of weight difference on the corners. this is the kind of stuff that'll make a race car handle like crap, but dosen't matter as much on something like this 60.

I don't know with the way your were drifting it around corners on the overnighter maybe you need to get that pig balanced out for superior handling in the corners

Ha! true! it's only setup to go right now! OK, need adjustable height shackles and we're hitting the Auto-X circuit next summer

Hey guys and Gals.. any Idea where I could go to confirm this in the Boulder area..? I am starting to doubt my numbers even though I used a calibrated gage for this.

The Pioneer landscape place out on 287 and Dillon Road has a scale. Not sure if there is anywhere closer to you though.

matt, just take some steel to recycle to anyone of the places around denver. they weigh your truck coming in and going out and the difference is the steel they pay you for. can't remember exactly what my 80 was but I thought it was still pretty portly with me and no passengers or gear.

Any of the bigger landscaping material yards will usually let you weigh too as long as they are not busy. Hit up Pioneer on 144th and 287. In Louisville behind Coal Creek Collision there is a Golden Concrete mini yard. They done it for me in the past too.

So this is interesting...

I just got back from Pioneer and they weighed my truck...

2740 in the front
3180 in the rear

and 5940 total.

The total being pretty dead on makes me think they are right and I am wrong.

Cool, my super duper scale dealio must be wrong. I guess.

Only difference was about a half a gallon of fuel and mead and Chili weren't in the truck. I guess it's not tooo far off.
