I love the original SpyderCo Delica made in Japan! When they first came out in the early 90's everyone carried them. Sharp as hell but, the original nylon molded pocket clip didn't hold up. I lost two that just fell out of my pocket. Most knives I've lost have been loaning them out and not getting them back or in the field.

These two fixed blades are some of my most prized.

The original USA made Buck field dressing knife...maybe close to 40 years old and countless white tails, rabbits and squirrels.

The Gerber LMF was my last "Working" knife and saw a lot of lab raids.

I agree @AlpineAccess about the mini griptilian. That’s the one I can’t find right now.

However the current spyderco I carry is the “spyderco edge”. It’s full serrated and it’s been amazing!

That Gerber is a great knife - especially because its old Gerber!

OK one more for fun: Morakniv! Cheap, SHARP, durable, big aftermarket. They aren't a sexy knife, but they just never, ever disappoint when you need them to work. We have Scandi roots and our distant relatives LOVE to gift these things for holidays.

I’ve been carrying a Benchmade for an over a decade. Basic little knife don’t recall the model. It was a special offer with an overland journal subscription long ago. I’ve also got a little custom “Largent” knife when I need to be dressed up Durango style with a cross carry sheath.

I carry a folding utility knife. The blades are cheap. I don't do anything demanding anymore. When I loose it, I won't feel bad about it. I can royally jack that blade up without a single ounce of remorse. Swap the blade out and jack it right up again. I've hidden them through out the house, in our vehicles. They ain't purty, but they get the job done.
I have a working theory: "The amount of money I spend on a knife is inversly proportional to the amount of time I can keep it around." There are, of course, outliers to my rhetorical data.

I've donated so many benchmade's, Kershaw's, CRKT's and leatherman's to various training areas and operations through the years. I probably could have saved at least one band if I had just bought some folding utility knives.

I had a Leatherman EOD Mut that I kept on my hip nearly everyday for 7ish years. It was an incredibly useful tool. You could change out individual tools and could access the blade without opening the whole thing up. It had a punch for putting holes in stuff like playdough, and a crimp for putting a crimp... on things that needed crimped. It was worth every penny.

I created a unique (read: custom) securing system. That's the only reason it stayed with me as long as it did. I tied a 3 1/2 ft long piece of 550 cord to it and tied it off on my belt. It was a long enough piece of 550 that I could still use it, but short enough that It wasn't a total pita to roll back up and stow. Day in, day out, that tool put in work. The 550 chord failed on a training jump over some airfield in Latvia. That Leatherman is either in the pocket of some Airman, or it burned in from 15,000 ft AGL. God speed.

Klein makes a bad ass folding utility knife WITH a nut driver on it. I'm sold.

In the last 5 years I’ve gone through a series of Kershaw Leeks that I buy, lose, buy, lose, buy, lose, repeat. I love those little knives but I don’t know how to stop myself from losing them. The last one is on Old Flowers Road somewhere - if you see it, grab it for me haha.

The most painful knife losses is when you loan it out, get super busy with dozens different people and get distracted and never get it back.
Lost my Emerson CQC-7 in El Paso that way.

My problem hasn’t been loosing knives, so I’ve got that going for me.
I appreciate hearing your stories about how they’ve been lost, loaned, found again, and so on.
I’ve got a gerber multi-tool that I acquired about 20 years ago (dang, has it been that long?). It was left in the back of my “tractor” (term of endearment for the AAVP7A1 RAM/RS) in 29 Palms by a grunt (term of endearment for our beloved Marine Corps Infantryman) who left it for me as a gift. It was thoughtfully camouflaged in a back corner, under a jump seat, with an entire packet of MRE cheese spread, along with a nice sprinkling of Mojave Desert sand.
It took a bit of doing, but I cleaned up my new possession, and it’s been with me ever since. I suppose that whoever gifted me that gerber tool is somewhere out there sharing the story of the one he lost.

Found my Benchmade! I’ve sharpened it so many times it’s lost it’s “belly”.

I also found some old EDC knives that have been put on inactive reserve.

And my victorinox still has the tweezers and toothpick!

Most of my uses are cutting drywall, plastic and rubber tubing, and breaking down cardboard boxes. I’ve never gutted an animal, or have been anywhere close to a knife fight. This tool also works well for removing dirt from under my finger nails, scraping sticker residue from glass, and the occasional trim removal tool and screwdriver. And it’s great for an occasional slice of cheese or hunk of sausage. Plus I never have to worry about sharpening the blade, as I bought a pack 20 years ago and still have some. Putting the utility back in utility knife.

@nakman I’ve carried one of those off and on in the past! Useful, cheap, always sharp AND you can let the dirt bag at work borrow it without worry!!!

In fact, I’m on my way to home depot now, I’ll probably grab another one for the heck of it!
