Does this custom bumper look any good?

Well damnit, I'm not sure if the 4xI bumper will fit this winch at all. Near as I can tell I would definitely have to relocate the control box and the freespool lever needs to be clocked in these bumpers but near as I can tell you can't clock the the lever on the Apex. Best I can find to possibly get around this is a guy who has a very similar design bumper and it appears he cut a hole and made some extension for the lever.
If you buy that bumper, you should consider opening up the top for better access anyway. It's not a complete "hidden winch" bumper but it suffers from limited access. Here's a link to an article (originally posted by @Inukshuk) about why hidden winch bumpers are not desirable:

Okay that's making me feel better about this idea. Looking at my truck I would likely have to modify my grille a bit (hopefully not into the logo lol) or relocate the control box. Seems like the only other logical solution that won't cost way more is just doing a winch plate but I would honestly like the armor up front

Well pulled the trigger, 3-4 week lead time, then a little bit of hacking to make the winch fit, then paint and I will be that much closer to having full mall crawler cred, I mean being able to get myself out of stickier situations.

The trend to run shorter winch-lines can somewhat counter the lack of drum visibility but I completely agreed with the article. Personally I run a full spool of rope on my truck because I only get stuck solo a long way from anchors.

I'd maybe argue the opposite, at least insofar that with less rope on the drum you need to be certain that you don't spool off too much and that you can safely see and handle the rope to keep that first wrap turning on tight and that it walks across without bunching on one side.
