Allen, if the date is set for August 29th, I won't be able to make it. I will be in Miami and no good wheeling there. I hope you do this next year. I was really excited for this
Hi Ken, yup Aug 29th is the plan. Say hello from a BEAUTIFUL beach in Miami. We'll send a cheers from Dinosaur with an AMAZING petroglyph!

And yes, I absolutely intend to make this an annual event.

Just found this and new forum member. This is definitely interesting and I am a maybe. Need to make sure that weekend is free. Biggest challenge is that is after school starts back up so if my wife is out of town I will have to stick around for transportation duty. What is the temperature like there that time of year?

I'm expecting 70s-80s.

Last year was maybe 75s-85s but we had a lil wind and rain. It was great for cutting the dust. This year we'll be later in the calendar and temps should be ~5 degrees lower. Should be primo!

Just finished up the camping set up for the Troopy and would love to break it in on this trip. Is there room for the wife and I? Also wanted to know if there are pit toilets on this route or If we should get a cassette toilet for the trip. Thnaks

Awesome! A Troopy will be AMAZING in the caravan. Totally enough room for you and the wife.

For 10-100 needs, there will be pit toilets at Echo Park that is our second campsite. The first campsite will not have pit toilets, and the third campsite might or might not have a pit toilet. We're going to figure things out as we go. I recommend bringing toiletry stuff just in case.

Also, a reminder: please have an unexpired National Parks pass, or buy a pass that weekend at the entrance and its good for 7 days. Usually they also have after hours kiosks. Probably enforcement is lax to non-existent once inside, but I prefer to be prepared.

I ordered my annual pass about July 7th and just arrived yesterday, so be aware if you buy an annual pass it might take a little bit to get to you and the rules say a purchase receipt cannot be used instead of having the physical pass.

Sounds good Allen, looking forward to the trip. I plan to go up to Rocky Mountain Nat'l park next week and get my lifetime pass. One of the few perks of growing older.

Well that’s two of us in that segment. I’m going to try and sweet-talk them into giving me mine a few days early this Sunday when my wife and I are up at Hermit CG near Estes Park.

A question for the group, I’ve been slowly but steadily setting the Tacoma up for multi-night overlanding/this trip and am wondering about gas. My new Tacoma only holds 18.2 gallons, so for pulling a trailer in remote areas I have two four-gallon rotpax gas tanks and am wondering if it’s a good idea to fill both for this trip? I suspect that just having one of them full as a backup for emergency use would suffice. TIA

I don't see a lot of benefit in not filling both if you already have them.

Reminder folks we are about three weeks out from getting out there together. Getting stoked!

In a few more days I will request a firm commitment of those interested so we have a clear headcount when we drive out there Friday, Aug. 29th.

Good question @GTBradley. If it's easy enough to bring the extra rotopax gas, I'd bring it. Just like @MarkEva says. If you're driving out from the Front Range, I recommend filling up in Dinosaur. If you're driving out from the Wasatch range, I recommend filling up in Vernal. The plan of ~262 miles should be doable with a full gas tank, but it is better to be prepared. Aka "Hope for the best, plan for the worst."

I have also heard from a friend, @Inukshuk, via a national parks news distribution:
1) severe fire restrictions are in effect, and only propane fires are allowed. No wood fires allowed. If you have a propane fire pit, please bring it.
2) pets are allowed only on 6' or shorter leash.

First post updated.

Betsie and I are planning to attend in the Troopy. We will be arriving late Friday afternoon to set up camp. Looking forward to the trip.

I’d like to huddle up at tonights meeting with those going on the Dinosaur trip and maybe pick up on some missed information. Who all is going to the meeting tonight in Golden?

Thanks for letting me know earlier. I'll update the first post shortly. I will ask more officially/firmly in another few days.

I am in Utah at the moment and will not attend in-person tonight. But after work I have an 8 mi run planned and aim to be available by phone after the run to talk any details I might have missed in the first post and/or if others (for example @J1000 and @MarkEva ) from last year's Dino Adventure are unable to clarify.

Allen, we won't be able to attend. Please remove my name from the list. I'll be watching from the sidelines on this trip.
