4 x 5 quarts is 20 quarts for $54 plus tax with free shipping. I like the Kirkland. Thanks for posting they are running the sale again, I had just gone through my stock from the previous sale.

Email from Costco - paraphrasing here: "due to popularity of this promotion we are going to be delayed in sending this to you. You can cancel if you don't want to wait."

Thats a good price on oil, but do you get what you pay for? If I stick with Amsoil I pay a lot more but I think I get what I pay for?

Per this article Kirkland oil is comparable to Mobile 1. That's good enough me and worth not paying an extra 10. 15, or 20 dollars extra for a single 5 quart jug. Just me though.

I stocked up on Mobil 1 yesterday as Wally World had lots of flavors on sale. Like a packaging change is coming which would make sense as I'd expect a price spike soon based on the interrupted supply chain trickling down past fuel. Best way to raise price is to change the package and convince the consumer its something new/different.

I'd reverse the question, is it worth paying more?

BITOG is the nerdiest of nerds on oil. General feeling is good stuff, made in USA (Warren is the OEM), etc. It's not super premium but the difference in 2026 between top and bottom is marginal.

As long as what you're comparing meets API and Dexos standards it's essentially going to be impossible to see a difference in an used oil analysis when you follow normal oil change intervals. If you try to push this to the max then oil might matter. Talking if you're someone who leaves oil in 10K, 15K, etc. This is usually not the base oil failing but the additives.

Spend money on good filters but that's regardless of the oil. This does make a difference.

Just a note on long intervals, when we tore down my 1FZ head pre turbo the cam bearing surfaces showed quit a bit of wear that could only be contributed to running long service intervals. I’m back to every 3000 miles on the 80. 5000 on everything else. The 80 only sees hard miles these days. I’ve only run Mobil 1 forever but the 250 is going to see Amsoil in the near future.

So yah more often with average oil probably better than long intervals with the most premium oil.

I run OEM filters in everything. Probably better out there but buying OEM in bulk is generally pretty competitive in price. And no service writer can argue warranty with me over a filter choice.

FWIW, I also tend to use OE filters for all our cars. We know the quality varies on them, too. I wish we could easily get Japanese Denso but cost and convenience to me still factor in so I'm not too worried about getting Toyota from Malaysia and Subaru from Indonesia at the dealer. I gotta give VW props here, my dealer here for our ancient 2.0L sells a huge, stout German-made filter for $15 and it's outstanding quality.

If you do want to stray from OE the Microgard Select Extended Life from O'Reilly is a high quality filter for a reasonable price. From what I can tell overall they meet or exceed the OEM filters most of us use. The Amsoil and WIX XP top of line are still supposedly better in some ways, like having mesh backed media and thicker cases.

The level of filtration and key touch points like the engine seal and anti-drain back valve the Microgard are as good or better at a significant fraction of the price. Considering I change the filter with every oil change the things that make an Amsoil cost $25 aren't going to benefit me anyway.

You know this I bet but avoid Fram if possible.
