just booked a cabin for the night of the 18th at moab valley rv park, non-refundable, so we're committed for sure now. apparently it's a big holiday weekend of utah schools and it's going to be crowded in town. see you guys a city market, 9am next friday :)

When are you going to unveil your creation? I'm curious to see how far it's come along since it was in Mike's backyard! :)

Soon, soon! I have the 40 running great, drove it around the block for the first time this past weekend, but now i'm in 9mm brake line hell. started off just replacing a leaky wheel cylinder, and that is cascading into a whole new brake setup, and now i'm contemplating finding disk brake font axle, and probably rear axle too, and another new master cylinder... know anyone that has mid-70's fj40 axles?

Tim - you should hurry for sure. I was looking at hotels last friday and the ramada was the cheapest decent place I could find for less than $150 a night. Today it's $190 so I went with cabin since we're going to be there for a very short amount of time. This is where we'll be: http://www.moabvalleyrv.com/Cabins.html

Well they wanted a 2-night stay since it's a holiday weekend? I guess there's a Utah holiday that weekend. I ended up getting a room at the Bowen Motel... how bad could it be? :) see you at City Market.

Is anyone planning to bring a propane fireplace? I can bring a 20lb propane tank if needed. I also have propane grill if needed.

I am booked for Doll House #3, (1 and 2 were booked) for Tuesday and Wednesday. Planning on exiting via Hite and then camping at the usual Beef Basin spot Thursday night, which puts us into Needles with you all Friday afternoon!

Getting really excited about this all of the sudden. Also ordered a fire pit but I don't think it is arriving in time to leave Monday, so I am borrowing Wes' fire pit. Will have 1 standard can of Propane and one smaller one for our stove/lantern.

See you all Friday night!

Just out of curiosity, do you guys take 95 south from hite a bit, and then cut east on Woodenshoe until you get up to elk mountain in the abajos, and then drop down into beef basin from the south?

Yes and no. Last fall's Maze run, our plan was to take Wooden shoe to Hite but we ran into 1 1/2 feet of snow so we just hoped on 95 from Elk Ridge and headed to Hite via highway.

I plan on dropping out to Hite from Canyonlands and then hoping off 95 at Elk Ridge and yes dropping into Beef Basin.

IMHO you don't miss much on wooden shoe. The very end toward hite is desert, the middle is all oak scrub and closer to elk ridge it's high alpine. a couple of decent views of dark canyon and that's it. I expected more so I don't think you miss much other than having to be on a dirt road.

We modded our trip plans.

Updating here since we are running solo, incase we don't show on Friday you can send out a search party...:D

We are now heading to Hans Flat on Wednesday AM, camping outside Hans Flat Wednesday night. Doll House #1 Thursday night and then Needles Devil's kitchen Friday night with you all!

Our plan is to arrive at Devil's Kitchen before dinner/dark, hopefully sooner..

Sounds good Chris, we'll be listening for you. Hey if you need any supplies from town brought down let me know, as we're hitting City Market on Friday morning. 9:00 to be exact, leaving at 9:30... :)

As for food the rest of the weekend, folks I think the plan is keep it somewhat simple: Friday night cook up whatever, we'll likely do some burgers or brats. On Saturday there's time to cook breakfast if you want.. Saturday lunch will likely be sandwiches out of your truck. Saturday night we're going to boil some seafood fondue-style.. so if you want to bring other random hunks of meat to toss in, that could be fun. And this group tends to prefer a constant grazing of chips & salsas throughout.. Sunday morning try to keep it quick, as we have a lot of ground to cover that day. Also remember there's a picnic table at each site, so for some that's one less thing to bring.

One thing to note with this camping is we have to pack out everything.. you're not going to be able to burn a paper plate, or pour bacon grease in the fire, for example, as there are no fires. So sometimes that means a little more prep work at home can be of benefit later on, so you don't have as much stuff to deal with out there. Spend more time enjoying the area, less time doing dishes.. ;)

I am soo glad you mentioned that, will be cooking bacon in advance.

Thanks for the offer on supplies. Will figure out and let you know.

Also, I have that kelty awning that fits in small tent bag, in case you don't want to haul your ez-up.

We will bring cheese fondue also!

On the bubble about biscuits and gravy for breakfast, might stick to pancakes and I always make enough for anyone that wants some.

Route change for us. Had to work today up to 1pm, so just rolled into Onion creek at about 8:45pm.

We have the first BLM site on the right just passed the group sites.

Might stay here tomorrow night, as well.

Yeah I got a text earlier Matt, the Dollhouse will have to be another time. As you know it's a big haul to get out there, definitely a good call!

And I'll see everyone at City Market tomorrow- looks like we've got a great group- 6 trucks (3 100's and 8 80's), and 3 camp sites. The adventure starts for us in a couple hours... see you in the desert!
