Drew,

I did some research on this last year after my 10 yr old REI chairs finally snapped. I ended up getting a pair of Travel Chair Teddy's.

I'm not willing to pay hundreds for a top of the line chair. These retain for about $40, and are very well built, dry quickly per the fabric design, and have a beer holder. The chair got good reviews on line, and my 1 year experience has been positive.

I always buy these high-end lightweight space age chairs, then find that my friends who bought a $17 chair at Sports Authority have chairs that are way more comfortable.

Avoid the $9.99 ones though :hill: - The one I brought with me to the Rubithon trip didn't hold up for 5 minutes against our Canuck friend :lmao: - The other one I bought lasted about 5 minutes longer when I used it :( - Our Coleman Loveseat is the bomb though...That sucker is probably 10+ years old and has held up great. It has been abused every year on camping trips , Cruise Moab, soccer games, Chatfield, you name it.

Nope...More like this, only standard Coleman green, heavier duty fabric, and unfortunately no cup holders :(

Thanks Matt, I will need to track some down for a test sit. :D

Reviving this old thread as I've been threatening to try out one of the Kermit Chairs. http://www.kermitchair.com/?gclid=CK2eg7qO-NMCFQcIaQodaekALg

Initial impressions are pretty good. Quality and finish are solid. It packs down super small. I'd wager 8 of these chairs would equal the volume of my current Kelty camp chair folded. My only complaint is that it is definitely short. Fine for campfire sitting but to eat at a table would require a short table. There are leg extensions available and a drink holder which its currently lacking. My Kelty has one in each armrest plus an attached bottle opener. So it wins that category hands down.

I'll report back again after I get a trip or two with it. I have another chair in mind if this does not work for me. Good thing is Bridger needs a new chair and this will definitely work for him.

Aw man, I wish I'd seen this thread a few weeks ago. I bought an REI Hang Time chair and it's been quite disappointing.

Thankfully, 1 year return policy if it :rip: again.

Well that one looks pretty good for its price. The Kermit requires another "C note". But it's hand made in the USA of actual wood. It was kind of a splurg on my end. Even smelled of fresh lacquer when I opened the box.

Kelty low love seatfor me.

If you don't need it right away, kelty does a friends & family sale once or twice a year. Which will get you it for $40. Low enough that Shrimpie can climb in easily (or young kids if you prefer, reclined seating position, Big pockets that are split for a drink holder & another thing.

The more I sit in the Kermit chair the less I'm liking it. Its really comfortable if your sitting upright. But lacks a high back for lounging. The armrests are too thin to really offer anything but assistance in and out of the chair. I don't like how low it is but than can be cured with the extended leg kit.

Fishing it was great as it's narrow profile did not get in the way. I was perched on a steep shore so the height there was ideal. It seems to be sitting pretty stable on uneven ground as one leg will sink into the ground to level it out.

Last night around a campfire it just did not deliver. My old Kelty chair is much better for the fire.

Not sure if I'll continue to invest in this one or give it to the boy. The extended legs are $40 plus $20 for the drink holder + freight.

I have a blue Comman camp chair, hard to get out of. The last 3 years I have been trying the ARB chair and the Oztent chair. The Oztent chair is double the price and the same frame and components as the ARB chair. The seat is a bit different with a higher back

I prefer the ARB chair and this year bought 4 for the girls and their counterparts:cool:

ARB on the left, Oztent on the right with a cheap folding chair in the back

I'm kind of a bigger heavier dude, so this chair works PERFECTLY for me. Has a cup holder and wide arms/back. A little bigger to pack, but not so big that I regret my decision to bring it. Definitely made for the 225lb plus man, but works equally well for me at 210 lbs :)

EDIT: make sure you watch the video on Amazon for all the features. Says it's made to hold up to 800 lbs.

I bought the Costco brand camp chairs a few years ago. We killed one at the Great Sand Dunes NP last year with a family photo all in one chair. The other is still holding up fine. I'm adding a Cabellas or ARB once I test drive each one.

I have the kong chair. i got sick of cheap store chairs failing. i was going to do an arb chair, but after seeing two friends arbs fail, i decided on the kong. only thing i don't like is it's huge. doesn't fit in my drawer (too long) and it's a bit bulky...not unlike a tent, but i'll sacrifice for a chair rated well above my weight that hopefully won't fail. two years in, it's been good.
