So are we taking the "funner route" or the steep dirt road? I heard for the dirt road that 4wd is not needed, but Ive never done it. Just what a guy at work told me.

Yeah 4wd wasn't needed before the mine. However, I'd prefer to take the more funner route :hill:

What's the scoop with Subzali junction?  spill the beans Matt, or rat him out Tim.

Back when they were developing the MVUM I went to the CCRD office during the comment period. There are two connecting roads between the upper and lower roads, but neither of them were shown on the draft MVUM. I contested it as an error, and they looked into it, but only allowed one of the roads to be included as an official road on the MVUM. That is the upper one, I think designated 248.1F or K (I'm going off memory). The lower connector, the top of which is right by our big signboard and the bottom off which is a little below the lower creek crossing, is not officially recognized as a road, which chaps my a$$ because it has clearly been in use for ages and is not a classic "user-created" route that should understandably be closed! This is the so-called "Subzali connector" or whatever Tim calls it ;). It also serves a convenient purpose to route traffic from one road to the other as necessary, without having to go to the far ends to make the connection! Unfortunately I have not been able to find historical maps that show that connector on them, which is the FS point of view as well for not allowing it into the realm of recognized roads

Oh well, at least I'm 1 for 2 I guess

I know people like to chat before hand and take pictures of all the rigs.

More than chat, Rising Sun has a paradigm for a driver's meeting, typically at the trailhead/air down spot where the trail leader lays out what the trail is like, expectations, and instructions for how we will run the trail as a group.

Cool, there's one connection on the map, the other is unmarked is that what your saying?

The one on the map is further up.. Matt's road is a little further down, but it's as much a road as any of them up there, even marked with road number signs iirc... just somehow didn't make the map.

as seen from space...

Won't be making the 40 run this year as my daughter can't join me, traffic will be crummy (the new Colo. norm), and in spite of carburetor tweaking, my FJ40 still suffers fuel issues on hot days. Y'all have fun!

That's correct Romer its right off the highway before the roundabout. There are picnic tables along the parking lot maybe we could stack up there. :thumb:
