What I mean is don't expect miracles. There just aren't any towers around the Alpine Loop so a few dB boost isn't going to matter. It'll work at the tops of peaks with or without the booster since it's line of sight to a tower that is the issue. Out in the desert around Moab a WeBoost will make more of a difference.

This is what Verizon predicts:

There's only one tower in Ouray I know of, with Engineer Pass Road shown to the junction of CR17:

A larger view around the San Juans:

This only maps FCC listed towers, so microcells and build-mounted aren't shown. So there's short range coverage right in Lake City.

LOL

Just don't want you spending $500 and not getting what you think when an ACR PLB is $310. A PLB is registered once with NOAA, has no reoccurring subscription and uses the locating system that the Air Force and Navy use to find downed pilots and overboard sailors...so it flat out WILL work.

It's my $500, and I'll cry if I want to, okay? ;)

IMHO the WeBoost makes sense if your goal is to maintain as much cell communication for business as possible. I’m considering one for this reason personally.

For emergency I feel like a Spot/InReach, HAM, Sat Phone, or what ever witchcraft Dave is talking about are better choices.
